Harry Kane misses golden chance as Bayern Munich’s season stoops to new low

Bayern Munich’s season has gone from bad to worse on Sunday, as the German champions fell to a third defeat inside nine days.

The pressure is building on manager Thomas Tuchel after a damaging 3-2 defeat at Bochum followed last weekend’s 3-0 loss at Bundesliga title rivals Bayer Leverkusen.

Those two league defeats sandwiched a 1-0 loss to Lazio in the Champions League in midweek and Bayern, who have won the Bundesliga in each of the last 11 seasons, could end the campaign trophyless.

Bayern are already out of the DFB Pokal, eight points adrift of league leaders Bayer Leverkusen and are 1-0 down after the first leg of their last 16 tie in the Champions League.

Kane misses huge opportunity to spare Bayern’s blushes

Goals from Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane weren’t enough for Bayern to arrest their recent slump as goals from Takuma Asano, Keven Schlotterbeck and Kevin Stoger secured a famous 3-2 win for Bochum.

Kane had a golden opportunity to secure a draw and spare Bayern’s blushes in the 10th minute of stoppage time but his downward header from point blank range was straight at goalkeeper Manuel Reimann.

Given Kane hasn’t won a major trophy at club level, many fans felt the defeat to Lazio in midweek meant his ‘trophy curse’ was real. And today’s shock defeat has done nothing to dampen that theory.

One fan tweeted: “If you were in Harry Kane’s shoes, you would start to wonder if someone put a hex on you back in the day.

“11 straight Bundesliga titles for Bayern, he rocks up in Munich and despite having 25 goals in 22 games, they’re 8 points off a Leverkusen side who’ve not lost all season.”

Another added: “Kane is going to break the record for the most Bundesliga goals in a season, but Bayern will fail to win the league for the first time in 12 years. And that perfectly sums up Harry Kane.”
