Harry Kane and Thomas Tuchel butt of the same joke after shock Bayern Munich defeat

Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga title hopes took another hit on Sunday as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Werder Bremen, leaving them seven points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. The defeat has led to jokes on social media over the prospect of Harry Kane once again failing to win a trophy.

The reigning German champions suffered just their second defeat of the season with Bremen full-back Mitchell Weiser’s fine second half strike proving decisive against his former club. Bayern have only dropped points in four games and have already amassed 41 points but still find themselves down in second place.

Under the stewardship of Liverpool and Real Madrid legend Xabi Alonso, underdogs Leverkusen are taking the league by storm and are now the bookies’ favourites to lift the trophy fo the first time in the club’s history.

It would be a remarkable achievement considering Bayern have held an iron grip on the Bundesliga for the last 11 years. Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund side were the last team to win the championship other than the Bavarians in 2012.

The fact that Bayern strengthened their team considerably with the signing of England captain Harry Kane in the summer would make a Leverkusen triumph even more impressive.

Social media pokes fun at Kane and Tuchel

Kane finally got his wish to leave Tottenham Hotspur last summer when he sealed an £82million switch to the Allianz Arena. The 30-year-old had spent the entirety of his career at Spurs but was eager for a move in order to finally win some silverware while he is still at the peak of his powers.

Kane has already netted a stunning 26 goals for his new club in just 24 games and is the top scorer in the whole of Europe. Yet, the possibility that he could still miss out on a trophy has sparked hilarity on social media.

“Kane going to Bayern for a tittle tap in and having to watch Granit Xhaka lift it would be pretty funny imo,” one Twitter/X user posted, referencing former Arsenal captain Xhaka who joined Leverkusen in the summer.

“Nah Harry Kane is gonna have to change his name to Harry Pain. This was supposed to be the one ‘guaranteed’ major trophy for him,” wrote another.

Pointing out that Kane has already failed in one chance to win a medal with Bayern already after his side lost to RB Leipzig in the DFL-Super Cup final, as well as being knocked out of the DFB Pokal, another said: “Harry Kane moving to Germany in a quest for a trophy and ending up with nothing is exactly the script I ordered.”

Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel hasn’t escaped unscathed either. Many users have moved to point out, following the January signing of Eric Dier and links with Kieran Trippier, that signing former Tottenham players may not lead to a trophy win.

“Something pretty funny about Thomas Tuchel going, ‘you know who will help me win trophies: Pochettino’s Spurs.”

Another added: “If Tuchel reunited Poch’s Spurs at Bayern and they finish 2nd this season after winning the league 11 years on the bounce I think it’ll be the finniest thing ever to happen in the world of football.”
