The Sims 4 modders have released a new mod to remove the in-game cart button from the game following major backlash.

The Sims is one of the most popular video game franchises of the past decade. The simulator title allows players to create a whole family, working life, and home.

And while The Sims 4 has been a popular title for many years now, a new update from developer EA has been hit with major backlash. The change in question is the addition of a new store button.

Fans online have called out EA for the inclusion, many even suggesting boycotting the game because of this new button. However, a modder has taken matters into their own hands, creating a new mod that removes the button from the game.

Therefore, those who download the mod will no longer have the in-game cart button appear and will be able to play through the game without accidentally almost purchasing paid content.

And while this mod may simply be a hotfix for fans, others have taken to Reddit to share how the community can work together to get the button removed altogether.

One Redditor created a new thread to help break down how the button works and what fans can do if they want developer EA to remove it.

“For the record, I’m not saying to boycott the game, in fact, I don’t believe boycotting helps much if at all here (keep in mind the vast majority of TS4 players are not the loyal fans, just casual fans and casuals don’t pay attention to social media of their games to keep up with boycotting discussions).

Keep buying stuff if you want, from the EA app, their webpage, or main menu, or elsewhere. Just avoid buying from the button as that absolutely shows in the data. I also don’t know how useful the “avoid the button” advice is for the same reasons – hopefully many will know this and spreading the word is a good idea, but if it’s not a widespread sentiment then it won’t accomplish much.”

At the time of writing, EA is yet to speak out about the backlash surrounding the new shop button. However, we’ll be sure to keep you updated if they do speak out or if there are any changes to the feature in the near future.
