Some players are convinced that playing tank in Overwatch 2 should be considered “community service” due to these reasons.

Overwatch 2‘s Season 9 has brought massive changes to the game, shaking up the whole meta with new role passives, hero tweaks, health changes, and many others. While these changes arguably gave certain heroes more love, a portion of the player base have deemed some heroes to be downright “unplayable.”

According to some players, changes in Season 9 seem to affect tanks the most, claiming that it’s now the most “miserable” role. Regarding how things are going for tank mains, a player mentioned that playing a tank should be considered “community service.”

Sharing their thoughts in a Reddit thread, the user wrote, “People seem to think that tank is to make big plays, guide the team, be the threat to squishes, ya know, all the things they were advertised to do for the downside of losing a second tank? Well, those people are wrong.”

They continued, “The entire purpose of losing a second tank was to help DPS and support players have lower queue times.”

Afterward, the user explained that players are not being the “team leader” or “anything cool like that” when they pick a tank. Instead, they’re merely a “sacrifice” to the team, just so their teammates can hop in a match.

Regarding this take, players in the comments seem to support the OP, claiming that playing tank feels like “a punching bag” and “being tortured” due to this season’s changes. Because of this, some players pointed out that tank players deserve to be appreciated and endorsed more for the things they have to bear.

One user even admitted that tanks have turned into a “meat shield” that’s essentially just waiting for their ultimate to charge so that they can “finally do something.”

“Go literally any f****ing tank, start doing good, the enemy team will do EVERYTHING to make your life miserable, while teammates will not give two s**** about helping OR making the enemy tank’s life miserable to compensate,” mentioned another.

Overall, it’s clear that some players are not too happy about the state of tanks in the game right now. However, it seems like there’s no choice but to adapt while players wait for the next balance changes.
