Overwatch 2 players bewildered as devs buff Mei in new patch, only not really

Overwatch 2 players have been left confused after Blizzard’s recent patch buffed Mei’s primary fire without actually buffing their damage.

Blizzard has recently released its mid-season patch notes, including major buffs for heroes like Zarya and Ashe. Alongside the heap of balance changes, the September 7th patch for Overwatch 2 also included the brand new hero mastery mode, which challenges players to hone their skills on select heroes so they can show off on the leaderboard.

Despite the huge changes, one specific tweak to the Chinese DPS hero Mei has left players scratching their heads.

Mei received a nice buff in the patch notes, listing a damage increase to her primary fire, moving it from 65 to 70. However, keen-eyed players noticed that something was very, very wrong about this particular change.

Overwatch 2 players baffled after Blizzard fake buffs Mei

Overwatch 2 players realized that the increased damage Mei received on her primary fire simply didn’t exist. Mei’s primary fire damage per second was already 70 when buffed back in June of 2023. This means that, technically speaking, the recent patch buffed her damage from 70 DPS to 70 DPS, resulting in no net change in damage for the hero.

Many players wondered if they inputted the wrong amount for the patch notes, or if the developers had simply forgotten this change had already been Mei’d (we couldn’t resist).

“I wonder if they meant to do 70 to 75?” one player questioned.

Another player theorized that Blizzard had secretly nerfed Mei’s primary fire, and didn’t tell anyone about it.

Other players used the opportunity to criticize Blizzard’s recent balancing attempts, claiming they make an intern turn dials at random.

“This is how they’ve balanced recently. Literally some intern turning some dials randomly. Honest to God it feels like they have no clue what they’re doing. -25 hp, + 25 hp, -25 hp, +25hp (looking at you Cass). Get your sh** together,” they ranted.

With the patch now live, players aren’t quite sure what Blizzard meant by this buff to Mei, but it may mean the icy hero receives another DPS buff to account for the fake one she received in this patch.
