Snoop Doggs says USC QB Caleb Williams reminds him of Patrick Mahomes

Famous hip-hop artist, Snoop Dogg, says he sees some Patrick Mahomes in projected No. 1 overall pick, Caleb Williams.

The discourse online surrounding USC star quarterback Caleb Williams can be nauseating at times, but few can question the raw talent he possesses in that right arm.

Williams, the favorite to hear his name called first at this year’s NFL Draft, has no shortage of dissenters on social media. But, it’s not all bad, as one popular artist offered a lofty comparison for the polarizing signal-caller.

Snoop Dogg offers high praise for USC QB Caleb Williams

The hip-hop legend known affectionately as Snoop Dogg appeared on the Rich Eisen Show late last week and lobbied for Williams.

“I am a friend of Caleb’s. I love him on and off the field. I feel like he’s a young version of Patrick Mahomes. I don’t know why, but I just feel like when I’m watching him, [it] just feels like Patrick Mahomes.”

The Mahomes comparisons are nothing new for Williams. Since arriving to the collegiate level as a five-star recruit, analysts and fans alike have claimed his standing as a “generational” prospect — one that rarely comes around.

However, there are more factors at play than sheer playing ability, especially for an NFL quarterback. Snoop eloquently stated as much later in the interview.

Snoop says Williams reminds him of Patrick Mahomes, but there’s one caveat

“But the key to Mahomes is, he’s got a great coach, great system, great play-calling, and players to assist that.”

Snoop continued, “That’s what’s going to be the kick to Caleb. Where does he go? Who’s the coach? What’s the system? And who are the players he’s throwing to?”

It’s a fair stance, and perhaps the most levelheaded one. Is Williams talented? Undoubtedly. But can he overcome an incompetent franchise? Few have ever been able to do such a thing.

Last year’s No. 1 overall pick, Bryce Young, is the prime example. The Panthers traded a slew of draft picks, plus a productive wide receiver in D.J. Moore, to move up and snag Young. The returns thus far have been underwhelming.

“Because, look at Bryce [Young]. Amazing player. Went to the Panthers, bad coaching, bad system, players not up to par. He looks bad,” Snoop said matter-of-factly.

Then you have the flip side of the coin. The Texans chose quarterback C.J. Stroud at No. 2 overall and did a much better job supporting the youngster.

Stroud led Houston to an AFC South crown in year one, defeating the Browns in the Wildcard Round before getting bounced by the No. 1 seeded Ravens the following week.

“Look at C.J. [Stroud]. Good coach, good system, nice receivers. He looks like a top-five quarterback. So, all of that is important,” Snoop said, wrapping up his point.

Where will Williams land at the 2024 NFL Draft?

The Bears, Commanders, and Patriots serve as the most likely landing spots for Caleb Williams, barring a trade up the board by a different quarterback-needy team.

Williams is worthy of an early selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, but as Snoop Dogg said so well, it’s about more than talent. The team taking him must have a stable plan in place. That’s the best chance at Williams reaching his extraordinary ceiling.
