GTA 6 release date further away than expected according to analyst

GTA franchise has been without a new release since 2013, with GTA V failing to add any additional single-player content like its predecessor GTA IV – with the focus being put into multiplayer.

Despite the constant updates to GTA Online, fans are obviously eager to jump into a new game with a fresh setting, story, and in-game mechanics, though that could very well be a long way off from happening.

GTA Online has been chock full of updates

Stock analyst Alex Giaimo has warned traders off buying Take-Two stock (the parent company of Rockstar Games) because he believes that their next major release is still some time away.

After downgrading the stock from ‘buy’ to ‘hold’, Giamio claimed that while Take-Two produces ‘high-quality content’ compared to other US publishers, he can’t see where the ‘near-term catalyst’ – in the form of a new release – to push the stock any higher than its current level is coming from.

Furthermore, Giamio predicts that fans won’t get their hands on the next installment of the iconic franchises until 2022, despite reports that it could be released much sooner than that.

RockstarGTA fans could be hanging around Los Santos for a little while longer yet.

Of course, this is only a prediction from the stock analyst and not to be taken as confirmation that a new game is still three years away.

However, it might not be too far off the mark considering Rockstar are still invested into Red Dead Redemption 2 with a number of updates being made to its vast online modes.

A small gap between a Grand Theft Auto release and Red Dead Redemption could very well be filled by Rockstar’s smaller titles in Bully and Max Payne or even a brand new franchise.

Yet, a former developer has already claimed that Bully 2 has been canceled at least once and is unsure if it has been put back into development. Sadly, there has been no news on Max Payne or a new original title.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was the last release from Rockstar Games.

It remains to be seen if Giamio’s prediction comes off, or if fans will be hopping into whatever epic story that Rockstar has planned anytime sooner.

Grand Theft Auto movie reportedly coming before GTA 6

Reports from sources who correctly revealed both the Resident Evil 4 remake and The Witcher Netflix series before their official announcements, are now claiming that a Grand Theft Auto movie is in development.

Despite no news of another GTA game (expected to be GTA 6), Rockstar is apparently focusing on another medium entirely for the franchise. According to WGTC, the Grand Theft Auto movie is likely to release before the next installment of the game.

It’s been over seven years since GTA V was released, back in September 2013. Red Dead Redemption 2 was Rockstar’s next major project, released in October 2018, and they have been pouring lots of resources into the ever-popular GTA Online.

But, perhaps their next project really is a movie adaptation of the iconic GTA franchise, as these sources have supposedly been on the money before.

A GTA movie would no doubt be a box-office hit.

The report claims that “the project is reportedly in the early stages and will loosely adapt the events of GTA V, presumably bringing us live-action versions of characters Michael, Franklin and Trevor.”

At this point, it’s only possible to speculate about who would play these characters, but potentially the voice actors from the game would step up into the live-action roles.

It’s possible that GTA Online’s success, which continues to add new players and is something of a cash cow for Rockstar and publishers Take Two, means they are in no rush to release the sixth game.

The movie will apparently still focus on the main characters from GTA V.

The movie industry is currently in a downturn, for obvious reasons arising from lockdowns, but if the movie is still in the “early stages”, it may be some way off still. Not to mention, filming is also made more difficult in these uncertain times.

The same can be said for game development also, and with not even a peep out of Rockstar regarding a new GTA game, that seems to be a long way off still too.
