Is Foamstars free to play or will you need to part with some cash? Well, here’s everything we currently know about Square Enix’s colorful shooter.

Foamstars is the latest third-person shooter from Square Enix, which aims to wow fans with its colorful team-based gameplay. Being dubbed by many as a Splatoon clone, Foamstars sees players clash in 4v4 brawls as they paint the map and their foes with colorful foam.

It’s certainly a departure from Square Enix’s usual JPRG romps, like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. So, if you’re wondering whether Foamstars will be free to play when it launches or whether you’ll need to pay for a copy of the game, then our handy hub has you covered.

Foamstars is certainly one of the most colorful shooters we’ve seen this year.

Yes, Foamstars will be free to download for PS Plus subscribers no matter what tier you’re on. Foamstars will launch on PS5 and PS4 on February 6, 2024, so you’ll be able to dive into the colorful action on day one, as long as you have an active PS Plus subscription.

According to an official press release from Square Enix, beginning on March 5, 2024, Foamstars will be available for £24.99/$31.99 via the PlayStation Store. Because of this, we recommend trying out the game and redeeming it to your account to avoid paying for it later.

Just like most live service games, Foamstars will also feature both a free and premium battle pass. This means players will be able to unlock new cosmetics like character skins, weapon camos, and more while playing the game.

There will also likely be an item shop where players can spend currency to acquire new outfits and additional cosmetics. As always, we’ll update this article as an when new information is released, so be sure to check back regularly.
