DC fans were left frustrated after learning that WB has canceled its Wonder Woman game and shuttered three studios.

WB Games announced the Wonder Woman project at The Game Awards in December 2021. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor’s Monolith Productions was a named developer, yet details would elude the public for years.

A Bloomberg report in early February 2025 shed some light on the game’s status, as the outlet claimed Monolith rebooted Wonder Woman and switched directors in 2024.

Reportedly, WB Games had already spent $100 million as well, leaving fans at the time to worry whether the Themyscira-set adventure would ever see the light of day. Those fears have since been confirmed.

Wonder Woman game canceled as WB shutters studios

According to Bloomberg, WB Games sent a memo to staff announcing that three of its internal studios will be closed – Monolith Productions, Player First Games and WB Games San Diego.

Monolith previously helmed the Middle-earth titles and was leading production on Wonder Woman. Player First ended support on Multiversus in February. The San Diego group opened its doors in 2019 to pursue mobile game development.

Fans are especially up in arms about the Wonder Woman cancellation. DC-branded games are already few and far between, with most emphasizing Batman in some capacity.

In responses to the news on Twitter/X, fans of Diana Prince expressed frustration at how the “most iconic female superhero” still doesn’t have a game to her name.

Others said the Wonder Woman cancellation adds salt to the wound after the alleged shelving of a Flash game and the rejection of a Constantine project. “Why can’t other DC characters get their own time in the gaming sphere?!” one person asked.

Wonder Woman-dedicated account Themyscira Lore argued the experience “could’ve been something magnificent” and thanked Monolith for trying to do the character justice.

For many, this also adds to the frustration of Wonder Woman’s relatively minimal representation in media in recent years.

The two DCEU films reinvigorated interest in the beloved heroine but the lack of representation in animation, games, and so on has left fans hanging on to the notion that Wonder Woman “deserves better.”
