Here are all types of Chocobos available in the game and their corresponding region

  • Yellow (Grasslands)
  • Gray (Junon)
  • Orange (Corel Region)
  • Green (Gongaga)
  • Aqua (Cosmo Canyon)
  • Blue (Nibel Region)

Yellow Chocobo

The first Chocobo you’ll come across is the standard yellow version in the Grasslands region. As part of the main story, you have to sneak up on Piko from Bill’s Ranch to be able to ride it. This requires you to throw rocks to distract nearby Chocobos.

Gray Chocobo

Gray Chocobos are located in the Junon Region and are useful in climbing steep surfaces. To find one, you need to complete a minigame that involves hiding behind carts to conceal yourself from other Chocobos. After you reach the Gray Chocobo, you can climb onto its back to travel across the Junon Region.

Orange Chocobo

It’s super simple to find an Orange Chocobo to ride. After completing the Costa del Sol story quests, head to the Rent-a-Bird Stables towards the city’s exit. There, you can rent the Orange Chocobo and obtain the Tropical Visor, Shawl, and Anklets for it to wear.

Green Chocobo

You are given the Green Chocobo as part of the storyline, which you can use to enter and leave Gongaga instead of using the Buggy. These Chocobos can also glide and jump high after landing on mushrooms.

Aqua Chocobo

To find the Aqua Chocobos, travel to the Chocobo Intel Location north of Activation Intel Tower 1 in Cosmo Canyon. You must complete another minigame pushing carts to stay out of the nearby Chocobos’ sight. After distracting the nearby birds with rocks, you can climb onto the Aqua Chocobo’s back.

Blue Chocobo

After entering the Nibel Region, you can find the Blue Chocobo south of the Nibel Airstrip. Unlike previous minigames, this one can cause a little trouble for players. You must sneak past two Chocobos to go to the top of a cliff. Then, you need to throw treats to attract the Blue Chocobo.

However, you need to make sure the Blue Chocobo doesn’t touch any of the nearby cacti. Therefore, throw the treats close enough to capture it but not next to the cacti to prevent the bird from getting hurt.
