A woman has been left with irreparable eye injuries after her sunglasses completely shattered into her eye following a minor car crash.

A woman has gone on TikTok to raise awareness for the potential damage wearing sunglasses can cause, revealing that she had to undergo six surgeries on her eye after being involved in a car crash.

TikToker Hannahnoliver posted a video on her account, detailing how her designer sunglasses “shattered into a million pieces” during a car crash two years ago and caused irreparable damage to her eye in the process.

“So I was driving along and of course, I had my sunglasses on. This guy pulled out in front of me. He slammed on breaks, I slammed on breaks but did not react fast enough and I hit him from behind.”

“When that happened my airbag came out, hit my precious designer sunglasses and they shattered into a million pieces,” continued Hannah.

She then added, “I just remember when I got back into consciousness, looking up at my rearview mirror…my bottom eyelid is pretty much nonexistent and my eye was gone. It deflated on impact, my optic nerve was severed and my retina was detached.”

The TikToker then added that her “eye was literally shredded. It looked like it had gone through the garbage disposal”.

Following her accident, Hannah revealed that she has started her own sunglass business, creating her own shatter-resistant shades in the hopes that others will not have to experience the pain and damage she has had to overcome following her accident.

“I think it’s crazy that people don’t know their sunglasses can do this and over 75% of them are made with either plastic, nylon or glass lens which means they’ll shatter right on impact.

I am partially blind and I’ve got to live with this for the rest of my life all because of some designer sunglasses I thought were cute on my face that I thought was going to protect me but they didn’t.”
