Call of Duty‘s 2020 release, apparently being developed mainly by Treyarch, has been reported to be a Black Ops reboot set during the “entire” Cold War era, featuring both the Vietnam and Korean War.

After a report came out on May 19 from Kotaku that Activision would be breaking the standard three year developer cycle to bring Treyarch back in early, many fans were anxious to see what Call of Duty 2020 would bring.

With the help of Raven and Sledgehammer studios, Treyarch are reportedly working on a new Call of Duty release which is set to be a reboot of the fan favorite Black Ops series, as is the case with the 2019’s Modern Warfare, launching on October 25.

Call of DutyA Black Ops reboot could see the return of some fan favorite characters such as Woods.

LongSensation, who has leaked accurate details about future Call of Duty releases in the past, revealed that two names have already been used by Treyarch for their new game: Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops V

The upcoming addition to the Black Ops universe is expected to be set within the forty year period during the Cold War era, and will include elements of both the Korean and Vietnam war as part of the campaign.

He also claimed that fans looking forward to the future Black Ops release can anticipate the game to be much more “gritty and gruesome” than even the next addition to the Call of Duty franchise, Modern Warfare.

Despite the success of Treyarch’s Black Ops 4 battle royale mode, Blackout, in place of their campaign mode, it appears as if they will be reverting back to old ways committing their efforts into developing a campaign once again and may release a battle royale post launch, as was reported to happen with Modern Warfare.

Will CoD 2020 be rushed?

Raven and Sledgehammer studios were initially tasked with Call of Duty’s 2020 release but were reportedly replaced by Treyarch as the leading studio after some early struggles in the game’s development.

Many fans have since begin to wonder if the game will struggle from its late start but it was also reported that Treyarch would be adapting some of Raven’s and Sledgehammer’s previous work on the 2020 title in order to make up for lost time.

Activision have not yet commented on any details surrounding the Call of Duty 2020 release but based on previous titles, fans will likely have to wait for official teasers to be revealed which are expected in Summer 2020.

During the announcement that Black Ops Cold War Season 1 and it’s subsequent Warzone integration would be slightly delayed by six days, the developers released a teaser image that all but confirms that the new map will involve Rebirth Island.

Earlier today, the CoD community was taken aback by the fact that the first post-launch content season for Black Ops Cold War had been officially delayed by six days.

While the delay isn’t long by any stretch of the imagination, many fans have been eager for more content, including the integration with Warzone, which so far we didn’t have many official details on.

But during the news, Treyarch dropped a teaser image for the season which at first glance might not show off much but if you look closely pretty much confirms all of the leaks that have come out over the last month or so.

Activision
Rebirth Island was originally teased in the Season 1 roadmap for Black Ops Cold War.

At the top of the teaser image, which says that Season 1 is coming on December 16, fans can see that a few phrases in red blurred out in varying degrees. Upping the brightness of the image in Photoshop reveals a few cool, interesting details.

The first is a set of coordinates at the very top of the image. Inputting that latitude and longitude into Google Maps will take you to the real-life Vozrozhdeniya Island in Uzbekistan, otherwise known as Rebirth Island. Beyond that, the phrase “Rebirth Island” can actually be seen in the image as well.

While both of these can be seen normally in the base image, they are way easier to see after it’s been brightened.

This all but confirms the leaks that Rebirth Island will be coming to the game when the integration happens and given the fact that the developers have already confirmed a new map for the season, it’s almost certainly this one.

As with with any other rumor or speculation, take this with a grain of salt, however, fans will likely be getting their first look at Rebirth Island sometime within the next week or two so keep an eye out for that.

Until then, keep it locked to Dexerto for more about Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.
