Black Ops 4: Custom games are coming to Blackout – Everything we know so far

One of the most requested features in Black Ops 4 is finally going to come to fruition, as Treyarch has announced that custom games are coming for Blackout.

When Black Ops 4 launched on October 12, many were more excited for the battle royale mode, Blackout, than anything else, with more than a few people also excited about the tournament potential of the mode.

Blackout launched without a feature for custom games, however, making it tough to do any sort of tournament outside the ‘Friday Fortnite’ style using public matches.

At long last, however, Treyarch has officially announced that custom games are coming to Blackout, albeit in a very limited capacity at first.

Announced in the December 14 update, custom games will be coming with the game’s next update, the release date of which was not announced in the post.

Blackout Custom Games will allow players to drop into their own private match to explore the map, visit destinations at their own pace, and practice Black Ops 4’s battle royale experience with teams of friends. As a starting point, Custom Games in Blackout will be introduced with a maximum player count of 12. As with all features in Black Ops 4, this will evolve over time as we evaluate how players are engaging with the system, and that includes increasing player count and expanding feature support.

Treyarch further confirmed that Solos, Duos, and Quads would all be available at launch, allowing players to tailor the experience to whatever game mode they choose.

Of special note, however, these custom games will require an online connection “to ensure each Custom Game is up-to-date.”

Custom games aren’t all that’s coming for Blackout players in the next update, however, as Treyarch also announced the addition of weapon camos for Blackout. Any camos earned in Multiplayer, Zombies, or the Black Market can be used in Blackout.

This will be especially great news to Team Liquid who has hopes of kickstarting the Blackout esports scene, making it all the more likely that they can get something going in earnest in the near future.
