Dragon Ball fans love “Buddy Cop” movie idea starring the weakest characters

Fans say the two weakest characters in Dragon Ball deserve their own buddy cop-style adventure, now that a unique idea has been shared for a new movie.

Dragon Ball’s core story is about going on a larger-than-life adventure and, of course, fighting with the goal of getting stronger. With that said, what if the story takes a drastic turn, lowering the stakes and upping the comedy to the scale of a buddy cop between two of the weakest characters in the series? We say weakest, this still makes them stronger than 99% of the whole planet.

Dedicated Dragon Ball fans understand the frustration of Goku and Vegeta getting the spotlight as the strongest fighters of Team Earth, leaving little room for other characters to shine. That doesn’t mean other characters don’t put their best foot forward when villains knock on their front door, including Yamcha and Tien.

Dragon Ball fan proposes Yamcha and Tien buddy cop movie

Dragon Ball fan @Extralongdokkan pitched an idea on X/Twitter of the often-forgotten fighters Yamcha and Tien Shinhan, starring in a buddy cop movie similar to the likes of Lethal Weapon, Hot Fuzz, and Rush Hour.

Yamcha has understandably gone from a genuine fighter to a bit of a gag character, with the infamous “Yamcha pose” being ever referred to in other manga and anime. He’s since embraced his side character role, giving up martial arts to be an all-star baseball player. Yes, there is a filler episode where they all play together, and he does the pose as he slides into home plate.

On the other hand, Tien is the straight man of Dragon Ball; he’s the only one throughout the entire series who takes everything entirely seriously, often with a grimace. In the series, he’s given great moments to prevent a “Yamcha situation,” mainly when he gave his all against a Semi-Perfect Cell. We can all tell who would be the good cop and the bad cop out of these two.

Fans are jumping at the idea of a low-stakes comedy set in the Dragon Ball world of the best friends teaming up and taking on some small-scale threat that they can handle, giving some much-needed attention to the pair who only shined in the original Dragon Ball series.

It’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility. We know that Krillin has become a police officer to support his family, which could become a catalyst for the duo; maybe Chaotzu gets kidnapped. We’ll have to wait and see if Toei picks up this sort of idea, though they’re most likely focussing on Dragon Ball Daima as their next big project.
