“Terrifying” trailer for The Strangers reboot divides horror fans
LionsgateThe 2008 hit horror movie The Strangers is getting a reboot with its official first trailer having some fans excited and others not too keen on watching.
When it comes to horror classics, there are more than a few that go down as being the epitome of fear and looking over your shoulder. The Strangers released in 2008 was written and directed by Bryan Bertino. It’s anyone’s worst vacation nightmare as a couple’s time away is disrupted by masked strangers.
The Strangers sparked a franchise with the first movie inspired by real-life events. But the upcoming 2024 movie, The Strangers: Chapter 1, serves as the third installment and reboot that will be continued by two more movies.
Its official first trailer has fans divided between it possibly being a must-watch horror and others thinking it can’t live up to the original.
The Stranger reboot is a hit or miss with fans
The official trailer for The Stranger reboot, released on March 1, 2024, features Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez starring as the main couple. Like most horrors, the trailer depicts them starting off happy and blissfully unaware of the impending events. Their car breaks down, compelling them to spend the night in a secluded cabin.
While there, a young boy approaches them before masked strangers infiltrate the cabin. They strive to survive the night as the three masked strangers thirst for blood and murder.
An initial reaction to The Strangers trailer by TikToker Monse called it “terrifying.”
A fan commented under the video, “The strangers was such a good movie! I’m interested in seeing how these turn out. Great video.”
“I’m so excited about The Strangers movie because we are getting all 3 movies in ONE YEAR !!!,” said one fan on X/Twitter.
One fan on X/Twitter commented, “I’ve never been a fan of this movie series, but I’ll watch this one just because of Madelaine Petsch. Although not in the cinema, but when it comes out in Digital HD.”
Others are not in agreement with one commenting, “I thought in the first film they said next time would be easier, as in that was their first kill. Also don’t love that they are reusing dialogue. Sometimes, it’s good to be one and done not diminish returns.”
“Bro why do movies have to release backwards in timelines?!?!?!! Like why??????? I hate how franchises do this. It’s so dang annoying. Smh. It still looks very good though,” said another about Hollywood rebooting popular franchises.
“Nothing beats the original. That movie really had my heart pounding. So underrated,” chimed in another.
“So they wrote another movie identical to the first one that was released. Who are these directors and writers that come up with this sh*t?” expressed another.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 will be released on May 17, 2024.
