Pokemon TCG players love kid’s choice to grade worst card possible for “the meme”

One brave Pokemon TCG collector allowed his kids to choose which card to send off for grading, and after they made their choice based on little more than memes, the result was fantastic.

It’s always pretty difficult for Pokemon fans to choose which of your precious Pokemon TCG collection to send off to grading. Unless you’ve pulled something as rare as a Moonbreon or the rare Shiny Charizard from Paldean Fates, the lengthy process can often put players off.

That’s why it’s particularly unusual, and fairly funny, for players to send off some of the least remarkable cards to be graded unless it’s out of love.

Well one Pokemon TCG collector is now the proud owner of an authentic PSA graded card that could raise a few eyebrows in the community, after being brave enough to ask their kids which card deserved to be sent off.

Metapod gets graded as Pokemon TCG player’s kids pick their favorite

A Pokemon TCG collector going by u/Mister-Gideon has shared a post on Reddit, showing off their prized Metapod, now authentically PSA-graded with a score of 9.

In a comment alongside the post, they say “My two kids got frustrated not being able to pull a reverse holo metapod, then started seeing the memes online. Eventually, they managed to both trade for one and we ended up with one for the binder and a spare.”

Further explaining the story, they add, “So when we were picking out cards to grade they fully embraced the meme, and here we are.”

Other Pokemon fans are unsurprisingly throwing some funny comments underneath the post, but all in good spirits with this parent’s commitment to the bit. One person says, “Nice! Good choice!! Must be worth at least $20,000!!!”

One user praises the choice to grade Metapod, saying “Safe to say you have the grail of the Metapod. First graded I’ve seen.” While another comment adds, “There’s no need to blame it on the kids. It’s 100% okay to love the pod.”

A comment also praises the parent, saying “That’s an awesome dad vibe! Hope your kids are enjoying this so much.”

Then the person behind the original post replies, adding “The eldest’s birthday is coming up soon so I’m holding back this and the other cards we had back from PSA today, but they’re going to absolutely adore them.”

Whether it’s a meme or not, it’s heartening to see parents sharing their love of Pokemon with their kids in this way, even if it’s a costly commitment to stick to the bit.
