Golden State Warriors urged to trade Klay Thompson to ‘stop the bleeding’

Golden State Warriors should look to trade four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson to ‘stop the bleeding’ and resurrect their season.

That is the frank verdict of former NBA champion and current ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins who feels it is in the best interests of all parties to stop ‘prolonging their relationship’.

Alongside fellow all-stars Steph Curry and Draymond Green, Thompson has been an integral part of one of basketball’s greatest dynasties.

Since being drafted by the Warriors in 2011, Thompson, 33, has been named an all-star five times and has helped the Warriors reach the NBA finals on six occasions.

But their powers have waned this season and Steve Kerr’s side currently sit 12th in the Western Conference with a losing 21-25 record, and are at risk of missing out on this season’s play-offs.

Perkins feels Thompson and Warriors would be better off with a trade

Steph Curry shot 60 points the Warriors’ 141-134 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday but Thompson chipped in with just 10 points of his own.

Thompson shot just four from 19 field goal attempts and made just two of 13 shots from the three point line.

As such, with Thursday’s NBA trade deadline fast approaching, Perkins feels a ‘change of scenery’ would be perfect for Thompson at this stage of his career.

“I’m watching Hawks vs Warriors and don’t understand why Golden State is prolonging this relationship with Klay,” Perkins tweeted.

“Stop the bleeding! I still believe that Klay can be the Klay of old… he just needs a change of scenery.”

Reports earlier this week stated the Warriors were not looking to trade Thompson although it is understood everyone but Curry are on the table in trade talks.
