A Walmart shopper has gone viral after she shared her theory surrounding why Walmart is turning off self-checkouts.

In a video that’s gained over 300,000 views, a woman who goes by @lgbtavenger on the platform, shared her opinion on Walmart’s departure from self service checkouts.

“Do you guys want to hear my Walmart conspiracy theory?” she begins.

“They’re not turning off the self-checkouts because people are stealing. They’re turning off the self checkouts because they want everyone to sign up for Walmart Plus,” she claims.

“They’re not going to put more cashiers there. They want the lines to be wrapped around the store out the door, and do you know why? Because with the paid membership to Walmart Plus you get scan and go, which means you get to scan your groceries, pay for it on your phone, and walk out the door.”

According to the Walmart website, the Scan & Go option is, indeed, only available for Walmart Plus members.

“They are literally pulling cashiers and closing down the self checkouts because they want to create a situation where everybody has the $12.99 a month Walmart+ subscription so they can avoid standing in lines,” the TikToker continues.

TikTok weigh in on woman’s Walmart theory

After the video was posted on the platform, people couldn’t wait to weigh in and share their opinion surrounding the woman’s Walmart theory.

“PAYING THEM so you can be your own cashier and scan your own groceries,” one wrote, followed by a series of crying emojis.

“We have to pay to shop for food and then pay for the food and pay for bags to carry the food home!” another said, clearly outraged.

“Pretty soon they’re gonna have a tip option, I just know it,” the video’s creator responded.

A few offered some alternatives, writing: “Costco is the only store I know with a membership, but you get cheaper gas, bulk buys, samples etc… Walmart isn’t offering any better services and expect extra.”

Another Walmart customer went viral after they confronted an employee for having to “do their job.”
