WoW player warns they’ll “snitch” on GDKP offenders in Season of Discovery
Blizzard EntertainmentAfter Blizzard confirmed that GDKP dungeon and raid runs would be banned in Phase Two of World of Warcraft: Season of Discovery, one player has taken it upon themselves to deliver justice.
When confirming further details about what Season of Discovery was going to look like moving forward, the developer shocked fans by announcing that controversial GDKP runs would be against the rules. For those who don’t know, these runs essentially ask players to bid on items that drop.
This goes against the conventionally agreed-upon spirit of fairness in the game, but it also encourages third-party gold buying. Blizzard has long banned the practice in its terms, even issuing high-profile punishments to some of the game’s most popular streamers.
Now, one player has promised to take the matter into their own hands when Phase Two launches on February 8.
Season of Discovery player vows to report every GDKP participant
In a post on Reddit, one player shared a call to arms, promising to report anyone who they believe has been taking part in GDKP runs in any form.
It seems like the OP is not alone, with one player reporting that a community of like-minded individuals already exists. They said: “There’s already a pretty big GDKP sniping discord set up, lmao. People will get reported en masse as soon as the official ban drops”
Others feel the original post goes a little too far. One said: “I think it’s a cool change that they’re trying to ban GDKPs, but it’s wild how much people care.”
On the other side of the argument, many felt that the post is unhelpful for the game as a whole. One said: “If you actually cared about RMT ruining the game you would be camped outside stockades mass reporting bots 24/7 Instead you choose to go out of your way to harass legit players. You are not a ‘real’ wow player just because you join a free roll pug and get snuffed every role by a greedy hunter.”
Whatever does happen with GDKPs moving forward, most are pleased by Blizzard’s intentions in implementing bans. How successful they will be in doing so is likely a question for the end of Phase Two.
