Larry David explains hilarious reason behind live attack on Elmo
NBCAfter Larry David attacked Elmo during a live broadcast, the comedian/actor has explained what drove him to that point.
It seems like Sesame Street and America’s favorite red Muppet, Elmo, has experienced quite the tumultuous week.
First, he used his Twitter account to check in with the public only to receive millions of people’s trauma dumping, to the point where Sesame Street’s official account had to step in to offer their mental health resources.
And then, just days before his birthday, Elmo was attacked by comedian/actor Larry David on live TV and just recently David revealed why he seemingly snapped on the Muppet.
David is not sorry for attacking Elmo on live television
Both David and Elmo were booked to appear on NBC’s Today Show, but David decided to crash Elmo’s segment with the hosts and repeatedly hit the Muppet in the face.
Unsurprisingly, Today Show hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Craig Melvin were completely blindsided by the attack with Guthrie saying, “Larry, you’ve gone too far this time!”
And, while the entire ordeal came out of nowhere, David later explained his reason for attacking America’s favorite Muppet unprompted.
While appearing on Late Night With Seth Meyers, David explained his actions while mimicking Elmo’s high pitched voice stating, “Elmo was talking. I was waiting to be interviewed, and Elmo was going on about mental health and I had to listen to every word. And I was going, ‘Oh my God, oh my God, I don’t think I can take another second of this!’ And so I got off my chair and I approached him and I throttled him! I couldn’t take it!”
David went on to show no remorse for his actions as he told Meyers, “And you know what? I would do it again!”
However, it seems like the beef between the comedian and Muppet came to an end before his appearance on Last Night with Seth Meyers as David told Elmo he was “really sorry” during his Today Show interview and Elmo responded, ““Thank you, Larry. Elmo accepts your apology.”
