The adult animated musical comedy Hazbin Hotel is sweeping up fans with its star-studded cast of actors portraying the roles of the demons of hell, but why does the character Vagatha “Vaggie” sound familiar?

Hazbin Hotel has a colorful array of characters. It’s hell after all. It focuses on Charlie Morningstar, the daughter of Lucifer and Lilith, as she’s on a mission. The annual purge approaches and Charlie is determined to turn her Hazbin Hotel into a rehabilitation center. Her goal is to turn demons into decent people to get them to heaven instead of being killed.

By her side is her devoted employee and girlfriend Vaggie. In Hazbin Hotel, Vaggie is a young sinner demon who looks tough on the outside but deeply cares about the inside. She’s incredibly protective of her girlfriend and does everything possible to help Charlie in her pursuits.

But many fans will find the voice of the actor playing Vaggie familiar in Hazbin Hotel. Once realizing who’s behind the voice, it makes sense why the actor was cast as Vaggie.

Who voices Vaggie on Hazbin Hotel?

Stephanie Beatriz is the actor behind the voice of Vaggie, and joined the series after the pilot which Monica Franco voiced.

That’s right, Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz voices Vaggie. It all makes sense now. The actor gained fame for masking her real voice while playing detective Rosa Diaz in the police procedural comedy. Her on-screen character was known as a badass, wore leather, could take down anyone, and had a distinguishable “don’t mess with me” voice.

Fans were stunned to learn that in real life her voice is higher in pitch and didn’t resemble Rosa at all. For Hazbin Hotel, the actor uses a mix of tones to get Vaggie right. When needing to be firm with some of the unruly guests, she uses her more distinguishable Rosa voice. It’s one of the reasons why Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans would have become interested after hearing the character talk.

Seeing as the animated series is also a musical, Beatriz puts her vocals to the test. At the end of Episode 3, Vaggie belts out into song and fans hear a more whimsical vocal range. It sounds like a Disney princess with an added edge.

Beatriz is also known for her role in Twisted Metal and starred as Carla in In the Heights. She really is a Disney favorite as she played the role of Mirabel Madrigal in the hit movie Encanto.
