A lead developer on League of Legends has finally confirmed if “losers queue” actually exists, giving reasoning and a look behind the scenes.

It’s been a long-held belief that a losers queue has always existed in League of Legends. Coined by the ranked player base, losers queue is when Riot would supposedly place you on a team with players with a lower winrate, essentially sentencing you to a free loss.

Whenever players would go on a losing streak, they would often look at their teammates and claim that Riot has shoved them into losers queue, deflecting the blame from themselves. This has held a contentious spot in the community for quite some time, with players arguing if this dastardly queue even exists.

Fortunately, a lead developer at Riot has finally shed some light on the situation, claiming that losers queue has never existed before, providing players with an explanation and demystifying the myth.

Lead gameplay designer Riot Phroxzon made the bold confirmation that losers queue doesn’t actually exist.

“Losers queue doesn’t exist. We’re not intentionally putting bad players on your team to make you lose more.”

“For ranked, we match you on your rating and that’s all. If you’ve won a lot and start losing, it’s because you’re playing against better players and aren’t at that level anymore. It’s not because we matched you with all the inters and put all the smurfs on the enemy team.”

The dev goes on to explain that many of the problems players have are with their mindset in ranked rather than their teammates.

“I mainly wanted to make this post because in the process of helping people debug their accounts, there’s so many people who legitimately believe we’re putting them in loser’s queue that it’s driving me crazy.”
