The recent Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trailer featured the surprise return of an old character and fans are ecstatic to see what role she plays in the new story.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth players shouldn’t go in blind, as the game is a direct sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake. If you haven’t played the first game in the trilogy, you’ll have to rely on online resources to get caught up on the Final Fantasy VII timeline and its characters.

It’s not just Final Fantasy VII Remake that fans need to be concerned with, as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth also features characters from the spin-off novels and several characters from Crisis Core, which can be played on modern systems through its Reunion remaster.

It will be much harder to ignore Crisis Core than fans originally realized, as the latest trailer has revealed that Cissnei, a prominent NPC, will be making her main storyline debut in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth fans love Cissnei

A thread on the Final Fantasy VII Remake Reddit is celebrating Cissnei’s surprise return, along with her new outfit, as she has dropped the Turk suit aesthetic for something more casual.

“I’ve always been 99% sure she was returning, bringing back Cissnei is just a slam dunk,” one user wrote, “She was well liked in Crisis Core, it makes sense that she would be traveling around somewhere, and she’s a connection to Zack.

“God I love her I’m happy, definitely feels like a continuation of the series in general and not a remake of the OG game and I’m happy about that,” one user said, while another wrote, “I loved Cissnei in Crisis Core! I always loved her banter with Zack. Great to have her back in Rebirth.”

Cissnei’s appearance in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth raises many questions, as she wasn’t present in the original Final Fantasy VII story. Without going into spoilers, Cissnei knows a lot of details about the events surrounding Final Fantasy VII’s big story twist, so she has the potential to derail events even further.

Cissnei could also introduce elements from Before Crisis, a Japan-exclusive prequel being partially remade in Ever Crisis. Cissnei was a major character in Before Crisis and could bring in the other members of the Turks and the original incarnation of Avalanche who appeared in that game.

Whatever the case, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth fans are overjoyed that Cissnei is returning and has the potential to become a major player in the story again, especially for the many people who were only introduced to her recently through Crisis Core Reunion.
