WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins has confirmed he has suffered a serious knee injury that could put his Wrestlemania in jeopardy but has vowed to make it to Philadelphia.

As promised, Rollins kicked off the final Monday Night Raw before the Royal Rumble and confirmed the news that nobody wanted to hear. He announced he suffered an injury in his title retention against Jinder Mahal seven days earlier.

Rollins hobbled to the ring in a knee brace where he confirmed a grade II MCL tear as well as a torn medial meniscus in his left knee. With Wrestlmania 40 just around the corner and a potential main event spot on the line, the timing could not be worse, as Rollins knows from personal experience.

What it means for Wrestlemania

If Rollins was to undergo surgery, he told the crowd, the recovery time would be about three to four months, likely keeping him out of action until after this year’s showpiece event.

It was at this stage he was interrupted by Intercontinental Champion Gunther and his Imperium cohorts who revelled in the prospect. But in response to the domineering Austrian, Rollins revealed he would be doing all he can to avoid going under the knife.

“I don’t give a damn what the doctors tell me,” he said to rapturous applause. “I don’t give a damn how hard I have to rehab, how hard I have to push this knee. I will keep my promise, I will take this title in to Wrestlemania.”

Although Rollins has promised to fight through his injury to compete at Mania, and remains champion, his position remains precarious. He almost certainly won’t be in action until Mania and any setbacks in his recovery could rule him out for longer, force him to relinquish the title he has held since May, 2023 and mean WWE has to change plans for the championship match on April 6-7.
