Helldivers 2 players demand backpack change to improve Guard Dog stratagem

Helldivers 2 players want to see the Guard Dog stratagem improved with a change to the shooter’s existing backpack mechanic.

Guard Dog has already become a favorite stratagem for Helldivers players, given that it serves as a flying turret-like drone. Like all Helldivers 2 stratagems, this one has its downside – the drone’s small submachine gun eats through ammo quickly.

Some players have identified another problem plaguing the Guard Dog’s effectiveness on the battlefield. It has a penchant for blasting shots as soon as an enemy notices the player, thus thrusting soldiers into a firefight even if they’re not ready.

According to fans, one small change to Helldivers 2’s backpack could easily rectify the issue.

Helldivers 2 players suggest backpack tweak for Guard Dog

“You should be able to ‘stow’ your guard dogs for stealth reasons,” reads the title of a Reddit post from a player tired of their Guard Dog ruining their stealth attempts.

The user went on to note that their teammates have been overrun on several occasions because a “guard dog decided to engage before we were ready while sneaking around patrols.” Having the ability to leisurely stow the drone would help tremendously, they concluded.

By and large, Helldivers 2 players seem to agree the Guard Dog mechanic needs further refinement. One person responded, saying, “There’s already a dedicated backpack button, so yes that would be nice.”

Another user suggested something similar, noting that the existing backpack prompt could be used to order Guard Dogs to “heel.”

Elsewhere in the thread, someone claimed they no longer employ this particular strategy because player control remains so limited. “Absolutely. It’s frankly ridiculous that you can’t. I stopped running them because of precisely this reason.”

It’s unknown if Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead plans on tweaking the Guard Dog system. But it’s a request that obviously sits high on the wishlist for many a player.
