Ubisoft’s pirate-themed game uses Silver as its main currency, however, there’s an alternate one that players can access once they reach a certain Infamy Rank. Here’s how to get Pieces of Eight so you can purchase rare weapons and cosmetics on the Black Market.

Skull and Bones, Ubisoft’s open-world action-adventure MMORPG, lets players embark on a quest for fame and fortune as the High Sea’s most infamous pirate lord.

Starting out as a lowly swashbuckler, players climb the ranks by completing daring feats with their crews and taking down devious foes in ship-to-ship combat.

Once their reputations grow, they’ll gain access to new features, locations, and even more challenging missions that get them even better rewards, such as Pieces of Eight.

Here’s everything you need to know about Pieces of Eight in the game, including what to use them for, and where you can exchange them.

What are Pieces of Eight in Skull and Bones?

Pieces of Eight are an alternative type of currency and are categorized as much rarer than Silver but well worth the effort involved in acquiring them.

Once players reach a certain amount of infamy, they’ll gain access to features like the Helm and the Black Market, as well as new challenging missions, which grant Pieces of Eight as rewards.

They can be used to purchase rare cosmetic items from the Black Market — and better weapons too.

How to get Pieces of Eight in Skull and Bones

To get Pieces of Eight, players need to unlock Sainte-Anne’s Helm inside their Smuggler’s Hideout at the Le Mont Muet. The Helm is an underground black market where you can access special orders from the Order Registry, which upon completion will grant you an amount of Pieces of Eight.

Order Registry contracts generally consist of shipping certain goods, like rum or opium, to a client. Players will need to accept an order, and then ensure they’re carrying the required goods in their ship’s cargo. (Don’t leave them in the warehouse!) Then set sail to drop off the goods at the designated buyer to receive your payment.

While doing Order Registry tasks, you can’t use Fast Travel points.

However, players won’t be able to fast travel while actively tracking an Order Registry task from the Helm. They’ll need to sail to the buyer’s spot directly to get their reward.

While this is the most common way for players to get their hands on Pieces of Eight, there are some alternative methods too. There’s a chance difficult world events will grant Pieces of Eight as a reward, and occasionally Ubisoft Connect rewards can give them out too.

How to unlock the Helm in Skull and Bones

The process for unlocking the Helm is very straightforward and doesn’t require too much time.

  1. Travel to Sainte-Anne and search for the local bar.
  2. Locate Yanita Nara and talk to her.
  3. Complete all her collection and delivery missions until she mentions her sister, Houma Nara.
  4. Go to Telok Penjarah and speak to the sister.
  5. She will then unlock the Helm for you.

Once you gain access to the Helm, you can interact with the Order Registry to access a contract in any Helm location.

Where to use Pieces of Eight in Skull and Bones

After a certain amount of missions (and very well-earned Pieces of Eight), you’ll gain access to the Black Market. Both sisters, Yanita and Houma Nara are in charge of the Black Market, so all you need to do is talk to them in their respective Pirate Dens to access what they have in store.

Players can also spend their Pieces of Eight with other merchants that accept the currency or while customizing their ship with cosmetics through the Vanity Atelier or the Ship Cosmetics section on the dock.

What to buy with Pieces of Eight in Skull and Bones

Both sisters sell smuggled weapons (for the player and the ship), armor, rare resources, character cosmetics, ship cosmetics, furniture, and even some interesting blueprints.

It’s worth noting that some of the items Yanita or Houma sell require you to reach a certain Infamy Rank before you can purchase them.
