Skull and Bones players gutted as Season 1 makes game “much worse”

Skull and Bones’ Season 1 has seemingly hurt the beleaguered game, with many finding the game more of a slog now.

Skull and Bones has not had the easiest launch. The game, which Ubisoft initially deemed as the first “AAAA” title, has not gone done well, be that in reviews or with the broader gaming community. The title, which was in development for over a decade, was released earlier this month, and there are already some concerns over its future.

That said, the game had garnered a player base of dedicated players who have found the fun in it despite issues. They’ve been carving out their existence on the high seas, finding the fun in the smuggling systems, and improving their ships.

With the launch of Season 1 this week too, many would likely be hoping that a burst of content would come into the game and breathe new life into things.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t appear to be the case, at least for some players. Be it from an annoying new ship type to increased aggro and difficulty completing routes, the season may have just made things much worse for the game

Season 1 has not been the boon Skull and Bones needed

In several threads on Reddit, players are expressing their frustrations at changes in Season 1, and ultimately with the game overall. There especially are loud complaints coming out of how much harder it is to collect Pieces of 8, which is an endgame currency tied to leaderboards.

One user called the game broken, saying: “With this season 1, the game is broken; it is impossible to play. It took me 3 hours to collect half of Africa and half of Red Island when I usually take 40 minutes to complete it.”

“Between one outpost and the next immediate one, I had to fight 10 armored ships. I collected the Po8 and then another 4 ships to collect the next one, collected the outpost and then another 2, collected and then another 4 armored ships.”

One player complained: “The fact they replaced the level 10 rogue ship with a damn tank that respawns at twice the speed is just annoying.”

In another thread, players spoke about further upset around Season 1, hoping it would bring change, but it hasn’t. “Season 1 just dropped and it gave us nothing at all to look forward to IMO, just some not great cosmetics, and a ship that for some reason wasn’t already in the game.”

Another commented that they were hoping for voice setting fixes, but have been left disappointed: “No fix for chat and VoIP. No way to communicate In a co-op multiplayer game. That’s my disappointment” One player simply said: “In the same position as you, had some hopes for season one but there’s just… nothing.” Another thread echoed it, saying: “I was holding out until today to see if the new season fixed some of the issues the game had, unfortunately, they have made it so much worse.”

Season 1 hasn’t been the revitalization some might have been hoping for after launch. Of course, it is still early days for Skull and Bones. Ubisoft has a great history of nurturing its games that initially struggle into sustainable products like For Honor and Rainbow Six Siege. Here’s hoping the pirate game can have a similar redemption story.
