Singer Dorian Electra is sparking quite the debate after filming themselves putting litter boxes inside bathrooms in the venues on their tour.

Gender-neutral bathrooms aren’t a new concept, but singer Dorian Electra has introduced the concept of “species-neutral” restrooms in a series of viral TikTok videos.

Electra has accrued a blossoming queer fanbase thanks to their gender-defying music, and is currently performing live in their FanFare tour across the United States.

In late February, the up-and-coming pop star uploaded a TikTok video claiming they would be placing litter boxes in the bathrooms on their tour “for all animal-identifying concert goers,” calling it “inclusivity in action.”

When one commenter requested “fire hydrants for the puppy girls please,” Electra responded, “Talking to my team and working on it!”

The artist even created a T-shirt about their viral “species-neutral” bathrooms, featuring the message: “I used the litter box in the gender-neutral bathroom at the Dorian Electra concert.”

It’s unclear if Dorian’s litter box campaign is a joke or not, but many are taking it as one, since they uploaded yet another video responding to a viewer who said they “just wear diapers” to avoid missing a single second of the performance.

“Honestly, this is a really good idea,” Electra said. “Let me know in the comments if I should be providing diapers for you guys.”

The singer appears to be leaning into the concept, even claiming that they “take accountability” as an independent artist and clean the litter boxes themself.

Singer’s “species-inclusive” bathrooms spark viral debate

Electra’s initial video about the litter boxes has ignited a firestorm of jokes on TikTok, garnering nearly two million views within a week. While many viewers are finding the situation hilarious, others aren’t too happy with them.

“You realize how this meme mocks and spreads misinformation about Therians, right?” one user wrote, referencing people who identify as animals.

“This is not inclusive,” another argued. “This is just wrong, you’re literally feeding into their mental illnesses.”

Other commenters claimed that the litter box could actually be a useful strategy for fans with service animals.

This isn’t the first time the idea of putting litter boxes in public restrooms has surfaced. In 2023, parents were convinced that a school in Penticton, Canada would be embracing litter boxes in its bathrooms after purchasing kitty litter to dissolve ice during winter storms when rumors of ‘species-inclusive’ toilets rose in the US in 2022.
