Last night’s Emmys ceremony featured an unexpected appearance from a green goblin on the red carpet – but who was it?

The 75th Emmys (rather confusingly celebrating TV between 2022 and 2023, despite it happening at the start of 2024) was an embarrassment of television riches.

The Bear dominated the ceremony with 10 awards, including Best Leading Actor for Jeremy Allen White, Best Supporting Actress for Ayo Edebiri, and Best Comedy Series. Succession was similarly unbeatable in the drama categories, securing Best Series alongside acting wins for Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen.

However, before proceedings kicked off, all eyes were on the glamorous outfits of the red carpet – and a mysterious green goblin.

Who was the Green Goblin at the Emmys?

Princess Poppy, best known for appearing in RuPaul’s Drag Race, was dressed as a green goblin at the Emmys.

The reality TV star attended Monday night’s event alongside her Season 15 cast mates, but she stood out from the crowd in her vibrant, eccentric outfit and makeup. The ensemble also includes nods to the likes of Jabba the Hut and Legend, Ridley Scott’s 1985 movie starring Tom Cruise.

“I wanted to do the exact opposite of what is expected of you when you go to an event like this. I wanted to take decorum and turn it on its head,” Poppy told Entertainment Weekly.

“Mainly I wanted to be a troll-slash-hag. I wanted to be so shocking that you just have to turn and look at me – in the worst way possible.”

Reacting to the look, one fan wrote: “Princess Poppy, you will always be famous,” while another tweeted: “Princess Poppy is the best drag queen in the entire world.”

“Princess Poppy the legend that you are. She said ‘idgaf’ and quickly went into my top 10 list of favorite drag queens,” another wrote. “Princess Poppy un-retired from drag just to end the entire industry. You can’t top this,” a fourth posted.

Poppy earlier told EW that she wanted to “fall off the face of the planet” after Drag Race aired. “I don’t want to be famous, I want to fade into obscurity,” she explained.

“That’s not a bad thing. I think people put so much emphasis on success and fame, and it’s okay to not want to be famous. It’s totally valid to not want to be known by a bunch of people. That’s just not what I want. I don’t want that for my life.”
