Succession star Brian Cox slams some fans who seemed to give up on the series during its fourth and final season.

Succession, which follows the infighting of the Roy siblings as they try to gain control of their father’s billion-dollar company, has been revered by fans since its premiere in 2018.

The show’s fourth and final season has been making impactful waves as it has gained more notoriety since its 2023 debut thanks to its recent award season sweep.

However, one of the show’s most prolific stars has come out against the series’ fans thanks to one specific and harsh reason.

Succession star thinks some fans gave up too soon

During a recent Succession cast conversation on the Paramount Studio lot, Brian Cox, who plays the Roy family patriarch Logan, had some choice words for fans who dropped off after Season 4, Episode 3.

For those who don’t know, Season 4, Episode 3 titled “Connor’s Wedding” saw the eldest Roy son being married and also the demise of their father as Logan suddenly dropped dead with zero warning to the family on-screen and the audience.

“It was very clear and absolutely right what Jesse [Armstrong] did,” Cox said, “I completely agree and I thought that’s fine because I still get paid. And that, at the end of the day, is the main thing, that one still gets paid. So there I am happy in my demise, and these fuckers have to work their asses off.”

Cox continued stating, “People rang me up and said, ‘We’re not going to watch anymore now that you’re gone.’ And I said, ‘You’re so f***ing stupid.’ I said, ‘The show is called Succession, so you have to see succession take place. And that quelled them.’”

The final season of Succession saw Logan’s three children — Kendall, Roman, and Shiv — fight for control over their father’s company in a way that ended in complete disaster.

Though a lot of Succession fans would have liked to see Cox fight to the bitter end, at the end of the day, the show was about who would take over the mantle of CEO and those who bowed out without seeing the series through missed out on some of the best writing the show ever had.
