A huge issue with Apple Maps has reportedly cost a small restaurant in Australia nearly $8,000 due to lost customers.

Since its launch in 2012, Apple users have had split opinions about the company’s in-house-built navigation app due to various errors on the map and issues with company information.

Aussie restaurant owners Chris and Pum Pyatt say they had to deal with an Apple Maps error that reportedly cost them nearly $8,000.

According to a report from ABC News in Australia, Chris Pyatt found out that Apple Maps had his family’s business incorrectly marked as “permanently closed.”

Apple Maps reportedly wrongly lists restaurant as closed

Speaking with the news publication, Chris Pyatt says that the couple noticed a “sudden and drastic change” in customer behavior at the end of 2023.

Then, a regular customer called to ask why they had permanently closed — and told him that Apple Maps had listed the business as such.

“We’ve noted a significant downturn of around $12,000 (AUD),” he said.

Due to not having an Apple product, Chris and his wife found it nearly impossible to update the listing. After calling customer support, he said they told him that he couldn’t be helped due to not being an existing customer.

The publication says that it wasn’t until they reached out to Apple that anything was updated. Then, Chris Pyatt noticed that the pin location shown on the app was also incorrect.

It’s unknown whether or not it is fixed at the time of writing, but after a quick Google Search, Dexerto found several other reports of people having the same issues across the Apple forums, Reddit, and social media.
