Evil Geniuses have been called ‘disgusting’ following the announcement of a Chevron-sponsored collegiate Rocket League tournament.

On October 25 Evil Geniuses revealed that they would be hosting the Chevron Collegiate Cup with a $2,500 prize pool.

The announcement of the tournament came shortly after Evil Geniuses released herculyse, one of the org’s content creators, who was running events for the organization.

This decision to host a tournament, so shortly after dismissing one of the org’s tournament organizers due to lack of support, has raised eyebrows among the esports community.

Fans call for Chevron to pull away from Evil Geniuses tournament

Herculyes made the announcement that she had been dropped on October 12, a little over a week before the official Evil Geniuses tournament would be announced.

“Tonight I was dropped by Evil Geniuses, following the news I was told that my tournament series has lost all sponsor and partnership and the last 4 events of the 15 this year have been cancelled,” said herculyse.

When EG proceeded to announce their participation in the Chevron Collegiate Cup, those within the Rocket League esports community were quick to call Evil Geniuses out on their behavior on Twitter.

“Wait hol up… i thought the sponsors got dropped,” questioned one Twitter user.

Others within the community had harsh words for the organization by saying they should be ashamed for posting the tournament details and calling the org ‘snakes’.

In addition to the comments calling out Evil Geniuses specifically, some have began tagging Chevron in the comments and showing them the bad publicity coming with the event.

“Hey @Chevron look at all the comments about how disrespectful this event is and it has your brand tied to it,” said another Twitter user.

Evil Geniuses has yet to respond to this backlash they are currenting facing over the announcement of the tournament. We will update this space as more information becomes available.
