An Applebee’s customer has gone viral on TikTok after recounting how she was being ‘shamed’ by a waiter for trying to order a molten lava cake.

Content creator Selena (theatrewithselena) recently took to TikTok to explain why she will never step foot in an Applebee’s restaurant again.

“One time, I got drunk in an Applebee’s and I really wanted a molten lava cake,” she recounted in a viral clip. “And so I looked at the waiter and said, ‘Hey, can I please have a molten lava cake?'”

Selena said the server then looked at her like she had “five heads” before claiming that they don’t serve molten lava cake. “We don’t have that,” she recalled the waiter telling her. “Did you mean the Triple Chocolate Meltdown?”

“Sorry, I was too drunk to call this lava cake by its Applebee’s Government name,” the TikToker said in the video. “Like so sorry about that. I never went to that Applebee’s again. That was the most embarrassing moment of my life.”

Many viewers in the comments recounted their own similar experiences of waiters being unusually insistent about a dish’s official name. “When i asked for chicken tenders at Texas Roadhouse and she said ‘..uh chicken CRITTERS..????'” one person wrote.

“No because why does McDonald’s have me saying ‘McCrispy’ out loud for a chicken sandwich,” another said. “Me at Texas Roadhouse EVERYTIME I order the blooming onion ‘oh…the cactus blossom?’ WE BOTH KNOW ITS A BLOOMING ONION,” a third added.

However, according to some servers in the comments, there might actually be a valid reason for being so meticulous. “As a server, I will ALWAYS ask if you mean the government name because otherwise when ppl get it they tell me that’s “not what they ordered,” one shared.

“When I’m doing a long shift in food service, if people don’t use the exact wording I get confused because there’s typically so many food options,” another commented.
