Elden Ring new boss in Shadow of the Erdtree

The Elden Ring community has noticed that a boss from Shadow of the Erdtree moves quite similarly to one from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

FromSoftware is no stranger to reusing assets from previous games in its newer titles to help with time and resources.

Such is the case, it seems, with a Shadow of the Erdtree opponent seen in the recent trailer, which seems to have a similar moveset as another boss from Sekiro.

The Elden Ring fanbase has spotted this and is now joking that this new boss is going to be a connection between Shadow of the Erdtree and Sekiro.

Elden Ring fans joke that DLC boss is connected to Sekiro

A post on the Elden Ring subreddit shared a video showing the boss from Shadow of the Erdtree.

In the video, it is clear that they employed a similar attack that is used by Sword Saint, Isshin in Sekiro from 2019.

While it is clear that this is just a case of reused assets and animations, the Elden Ring community is still having fun with it.

One person wrote, “Are you trying to tell me that Isshin was at one point isekai’d to the Lands Between and taught everyone there to use lightning?”

Others are taking the time to clear it up for anyone who is taking the video seriously as a true connection, with another user saying: “Lightning and an old man – two things that have never existed in a Souls game.”

It’s also clearly touching on a sore spot for Sekiro fans, who have been wanting some sort of sequel or follow-up to the game, as it never even received DLC.

It isn’t out of the ordinary for fans to cling to any little thing that could possibly indicate some kind of connection to the game. As one Redditor says in the thread: “Sekiro players have always been strong in Hopium.”

While the joke is entertaining enough for the Elden Ring crowd, Sekiro faithful are going to continue wondering if that game’s world will ever be revisited.
