VCT LOCK//IN Brazil, the biggest LAN event in Valorant history, came to an end as Fnatic beat home side LOUD in a thrilling series. Here is everything you need to know about the tournament, including results and final placements.

Fnatic’s wait for a title is over. Two years after almost winning the first international Valorant event, the European giants finally have a trophy in their cabinet after winning VCT LOCK//IN in a match described by many as the best in the history of the game.

Hollywood scriptwriters couldn’t have penned a more dramatic ending if they tried. Fnatic came out of the gates all guns blazing and raced to a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series. LOUD did not back down, however, and leveled the series, to the delight of the Ginásio do Ibirapuera crowd. The Brazilian team team carried that momentum into the final map, Icebox, but let an 11-3 lead slip as Fnatic won the series in overtime, rendering the crowd silent.

With Fnatic’s VCT LOCK//IN victory, Timofey ‘Chronicle’ Khromov became the first player to win two VCT trophies. The Russian player was also part of the Gambit squad that won VCT Stage 3 Masters in Berlin in 2021.

VCT LOCK//IN Brazil marked the start of a new era for Valorant esports

VCT LOCK//IN Brazil was the first event of the 2023 Valorant Champions Tour and featured the 30 partner teams from the EMEA, Pacific, and Americas international leagues, as well as two Chinese invited teams. It was the biggest Valorant event hosted by Riot Games and offered the first look at the teams that are part of this new era in the esport.

VCT 2023 LOCK//IN Brazil: Results, format and bracket

VCT LOCK//IN Brazil took place from February 13 through March 4 at Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo. The 10,000-seat arena had previously staged other esports events, including the finals of the second split of CBLOL 2022 and the LATAM last-chance qualifier for Valorant Champions 2022.

The 32 participating teams were placed in a single-elimination bracket, with the first three rounds being played in a best-of-three format. The semi-finals and the grand final will be best-of-five clashes.

Riot Games used a random draw process to maximize the number of inter-regional clashes for the first round of matches. The 16 match-ups were distributed across two sides of the bracket, called ‘Alpha’ and ‘Omega’, in order to maximize the possibility of inter-regional matches for the second round as well.
