Smite 2 has been announced, but will people who have enjoyed Smite 1 on last-gen consoles get a chance to try the sequel? Here’s what we know so far.

Smite 2’s Alpha is imminent, with players getting the opportunity to test it within the next few months as it gets prepared for a Spring 2024 release on PC and consoles.

The original Smite has been a console mainstay, with it being one of the only MOBAs suited to playing on a controller. As such, many longtime fans of the series will surely be looking forward to the sequel.

But will you be able to play Smite 2 if you’re stuck on a last gen console and haven’t had the chance to upgrade? And will Smite 1 still be playable for you when Smite 2 comes out? Here’s what you need to know.

Smite 2 everything we know

Will Smite 2 release on last-gen consoles?

According to devs at Titan Forge Games, Smite 2 will not be coming to PS4 or Xbox One. The game will be exclusive to current-gen consoles and PC. And, though we haven’t gotten a full spec list for the PC version of the Smite 2 Alpha, there’s a good chance folks with less powerful computers may being left out as well.

Considering the massive leap in graphical fidelity on display with Smite 2, this isn’t overly surprising. The devs set out to create a game that could take advantage of the leap from Unreal 3 to Unreal 5, a near-unprecedented engine conversion that has allowed the technology beneath Smite to leap forward by almost 2 decades.

Will Smite 1 still be playable on last-gen consoles?

Yes, Smite 1 will still be playable even when Smite 2 is fully released. Cross-gen skins and content will be dropping between both titles, and an entire year of content is still planned for the original Smite as Smite 2 is brought out of its Alpha stages.

If you can’t afford to upgrade your console or PC, the original Smite will be perfectly playable and you’ll be able to continue playing it. Smite 1 will even be getting additional content updates for the forseeable future, meaning fans of the original will be able to keep playing it.

There isn’t a concrete end date on the original game, with devs claiming that they’ll keep servers up as long as players are still interesting in playing it.
