Could Chris Evans be a good Wolverine?

When asked about a possible casting for one of the Avengers, the Russo brothers decided to cast him as one of the iconic X-Men.

Avengers: Endgame marked the end of the line for actors Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson, but if the directors had their way it wouldn’t be the last ride for one of them.

With the X-Men set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the recent acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney, many fans are already speculating which actors could take up some of the iconic roles. Wolverine, one of the most beloved X-Men, is a hotly-debated role with many actors getting suggested.

But the Russo brothers – directors of the Marvel movies Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame – want to cast an old friend.

In an interview with Phase Zero, the Russo brothers discussed various topics related to the MCU, including the pair’s rumored involvement in a possible Secret Wars project. The questioning then shifted to Chris Evans, with whom the directors had just worked on the upcoming movie, the Gray Man.

Interviewer Brandon Davis brought up the possibility of Chris Evans and the Russos reuniting in the MCU, given that the multiverse is beginning to be explored following the events of the recent Dr. Strange movie.

Davis asked the duo, if they were to reunite with Evans in the MCU in a different role, who would they cast him as.

“Wolverine,” Joe Russo said. “Evans has incredible range and physicality…Chris is energetic and charismatic.” These qualities, according to the director, would make him a perfect fit to play Wolverine.

While Chris Evans likely wouldn’t be the long-term casting choice for Wolverine, especially since he just hung up Captain America’s shield, the idea of him playing a wildly different character in the MCU is intriguing. And to see him go from arguably the face of the Avengers to the face of the X-Men would be one heck of a shock to audiences.
