The search for a new James Bond is yet to begin, as producers decide where to take the character next. Speaking at a star-studded London event, 007 head honcho Barbara Broccoli also revealed that a new Bond adventure won’t shoot anytime soon.

Producer Barbara Broccoli was being honored alongside her brother and co-producer Michael G. Wilson at an event organized by the British Film Institute last night.

Notable guests attending the event included Ralph Fiennes, who played M in the recent movies, and Naomie Harris, who was Moneypenny. There were also video messages from the likes of Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes, Dame Judi Dench, Rami Malek, and Lea Seydoux.

While celebrating her BFI Fellowship, Broccoli spoke about what’s next for 007…

When asked who would play the next 007, Broccoli told Deadline, “Nobody’s in the running. We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through.”

In terms of story, Broccoli added “There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond.

“We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”

Who is in the running to play 007?

Mission: Impossible star Henry Cavill is the current favorite to play James Bond.

In spite of what Broccoli says, there’s still speculation regarding who will play the next James Bond.

According to bookmakers Ladbrokes, Superman himself – Henry Cavill – is currently the hot favorite, with odds of 3/1. Though having played a spy in Man From UNCLE and Mission: Impossible – as well as the forthcoming Argyll – he may be all spied-out.

Regé-Jean Page is next with odds of 7/2. Page shot to fame in Netflix smash Bridgerton, though he himself has a spy movie in the can, starring opposite Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans in The Gray Man, which arrives on Netflix next month.
Third favorite is Tom Hardy on 6/1, though the Venom star shares that spot with Chiwetel Ejiofor, who was most recently seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Bringing up the rear, so-to-speak, is Aidan Turner (10/1), Idris Elba (10/1), James Norton (12/1), and Richard Madden (16/1). Though based on Broccoli’s quotes, don’t expect an announcement anytime soon.
