Is Madame Web for kids? Age rating explained
SonyMadame Web is dropping in cinemas soon, but is the movie for kids? Here’s what you need to know about the Spider-Man spinoff’s age rating.
Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is expanding with the release of Madame Web, following on from the likes of Venom, Venom 2, and Morbius. But rather than spinning a web within the multiverse, the film is a standalone origin story of the titular character, portrayed by Dakota Johnson.
As per the synopsis, Cassandra Webb is “a paramedic in Manhattan who develops the power to see the future… and realizes she can use that insight to change it. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women bound for powerful destinies – if they can all survive a deadly present.”
Although Madame Web hasn’t had the best reception so far, perhaps the film might be one for the whole family to watch – but that all depends on its age rating, of course.
Madame Web age rating
Madame Web is rated PG-13, which stands for parents strongly cautioned, as some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
The reason for the film’s age rating is said to be the inclusion of violence/action and strong language, with Common Sense Media stating: “Gory, violent fight scenes typical of the SSU are likely to pop up in this movie, along with other mature content and strong language.”
With Madame Web fast becoming one of the most memed movies of 2024, it’s no surprise there were a few jokes about the film’s rating. “So, uh, no freaky spider-sex in this Dakota Johnson/Sydney Sweeney joint. Got it,” wrote one X user.
Others commented on its UK rating, including this person who said, “Fun fact: Madame Web is the first Sony Cinematic Universe film to be rated 12 in the Uk.
“Keep in mind Venom, Morbius, and Venom 2 all got a PG-13 in America but got rated 15 in the UK for some reason.”
Madame Web drops in theaters on February 14 – you can find more of our coverage here.
