Agatha Coven of Chaos: Cast & everything we know

Coven of Chaos songsDisney+

Yes, it was Agatha all along, and here’s everything we know about the MCU villain’s show.

Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will conclude this year with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. By that time, we’ll have had seven films, eight TV shows, and two seasonal specials, if Werewolf by Night goes to plan.

After Avengers: Endgame and Far From Home put the brakes on the MCU, along with global restrictions, it all kicked off again with WandaVision, following the titular characters and their mysterious, sitcom-style life in Westview.

We won’t spoil too many of its details until a bit further down, but Agatha was a major highlight of the Disney+ debut, and it won’t be too long until she returns.

Is there an Agatha: Coven of Chaos release date?

Agatha: Coven of Chaos is due for release on Disney+ sometime in Winter 2023, though this may now have changed. This would be just over halfway through the MCU’s Phase Five, after Ironheart and before Daredevil: Born Again.

The release window was announced during the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con, but a specific date hasn’t been provided. And now, according to insider KC Walsh, the show’s release date is now labelled as TBD at Marvel Studios. This means that the project could be pushed back indefinitely, even into 2025.

We do know though, that principal shooting and photography for the show did begin at the end of January 2023.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos cast: Who’s in it, and are there any new characters?

Kathryn Hahn will be returning as the titular witch for Agatha: Coven of Chaos. She’ll also be joined by Emma Caulfield, who played the dual role of Sarah Proctor/Dottie Jones, who served as the social leader inside of Westview.

It’s also recently been announced that Joe Locke, of Heartstopper fame, has been cast, though details of his role are still under speculation.

It’s expected that other witches will be introduced, given the implication of a “Coven” in the title, with one recent casting hinted at Agatha’s band of Witches being just as iconic as the titular character.

Variety has just reported that Aubrey Plaza has been cast in Coven of Chaos in an undisclosed role.

The role is Plaza’s first time featuring in a big comic book project. The actor – best known for playing April Ludgate in Parks and Recreation – has a reputation for her deadpan comedic delivery. Her casting also reunites her Hahn, with the two having both worked in Parks and Recreation.

Saturday Night Live star Sasheer Zamata has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

In addition to these new additions, Deadline confirmed that Debra Jo Rupp, who played Mrs. Hart in WandaVision, would also appear in Coven of Chaos, potentially reprising her role in the spinoff series.

Are there plot details on Agatha: Coven of Chaos?

No, there are currently no details about Agatha: Coven of Chaos as of yet. Under its earlier title, Agatha: House of Harkness, Marvel said the show will “reveal more about the character first introduced in Marvel Studios’ WandaVision.

“Jac Schaefer, who served as head writer and executive producer on WandaVision, returns for Agatha: House of Harkness. Be sure to hide all dogs named Sparky.”

There are no other confirmed plot details at the time of writing. In WandaVision, she was revealed to be the source of Wanda’s anguish and the controller of her realities in Westview, drawn to her high level of power and wishing to take it for herself. The last time we saw her, she was condemned to live the rest of her life imprisoned in her own body as nosy neighbor Agnes, so it’s likely we’ll catch up with her efforts to break free.

However, according to a report from The Illuminerdi, Coven of Chaos will pick up right after the events of WandaVision and take place in Westview. Agatha will be freed from the spell that Wanda placed on her by a new Coven of Witches, one of whom the reports claim to be Aubrey Plaza.

One aspect of WandaVision that fans are hoping for in this new show is the musical elements to Agatha’s character. WandaVision’s “Agatha All Along” tune topping the charts and becoming a crowd favorite immediately. Thankfully, it appears that this new show will follow suit, with Hahn teasing that Coven of Chaos might even have multiple new songs for viewers to get stuck in their head.

Actor Joe Locke recently posted a photo from the set on his Instagram that seemed to indicate that the show’s title may have been changed from Coven of Chaos to Agnes of Westview. Disney has not officially confirmed the change in title.

Will Scarlet Witch be in Agatha: Coven of Chaos?

One of the biggest unknowns about the show is whether or not Elizabeth Olsen will appear as Scarlet Witch in the series. In a recent interview with Deadline, Olsen was asked if she could hint and when and if she will return to the MCU. “I don’t know ever how to answer these questions except, I think I’ll be back.”

This isn’t much to go off, but given how secretive the MCU is when it comes to future projects, it’s not surprising that Olsen isn’t prepared to give anything away. However, we’ll be sure to keep you updated if any news or confirmation about Olsen’s future in the MCU is revealed.

Marvel is yet to confirm if these plot details are in fact true so keep checking back here for any updates on what to expect from the plot of the show.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos trailer: Is there a trailer?
