TikTok is an absolute force in the entertainment world and with more users creating videos than ever, keeping them in perpetuity is one of the app’s most helpful features. Here’s how you can save a video from the app.

There are over one billion registered users on TikTok as of 2021, making it one of the largest platforms in all of the world.

While not everyone is on the app to post videos and aspire to internet fame, there are plenty of people trying to do just that.

Whether you’re one of the people shooting for the stars and need some help getting off the ground, or if you’ve found a clip that speaks to you and want to share it with your friends, this is what you need to know to save any kind of video on TikTok.

TikTok has become a hub for storytelling on the internet.

There are a couple of distinctions to make when it comes to adding a video from TikTok to your camera roll.

If the video is yours and you simply want to download it to have a copy then the steps are easy:

  1. Open up TikTok and click on your profile page.
  2. Find and select the video you want to save.
  3. Click the three dots on the bottom of the icon stack that appears on the side of the video.
  4. Press Save Video and allow it to download.

Once that’s done, you can find the video stored safely away on your roll.

If you want to save someone else’s video the steps don’t change too much either.

  1. Find the video that you want to save
  2. Click the arrow-shaped sharing icon at the right-hand side of the video
  3. Press Save Video and allow it to download.

How to save a TikTok draft to your camera roll

TikTok makes it complicated (but not impossible) to save videos that aren’t ready for the world to see.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to save a draft directly to your camera roll without taking some extra steps.

Here’s the easiest alternative:

  1. Film and prepare the draft that you want to save.
  2. Once you’re on the posting page, select the “Who can watch this video” setting and set it to “Only Me.”
  3. Go to your profile page and click the Lock icon that represents private videos.
  4. Click the three dots at the bottom of the page and press Save Video.

This will remain the easiest way to save drafts until TikTok makes the move to allow it innately in the app.

That’s all there is to know about saving TikToks! If you’re ready to put that knowledge to use then take a look at our guide to some of the app’s coolest filters.
