2000s tech-inspired brand Skeuoss is bringing back the liquid-filled accessories with the launch of its new aqua computer mouse.

Nostalgic-looking tech has had a resurgence. The influence of the days of Windows XP can be seen everywhere, from the translucent-colored plastic skins available for the Steam Deck to brands bringing back iconic landmark devices like the original iPod.

Now, Skeuoss, a brand specializing in nostalgia, has unveiled two ‘Frutiger Aero’ gaming mice that looks like it came straight out of the 2000s.

The aqua mouse is available in two designs, one with a floating globe and a clownfish, and the other with a dolphin. The liquid in these retro peripherals doesn’t improve your precision in your favorite games – it’s just purely about the aesthetic.

Each of these nostalgia-inducing mice is still equipped with Bluetooth and 2.4G wireless connectivity. The compact designs, despite the liquid-filled backs, weigh 105g and have a DPI of up to 1000.

For even more nostalgia, these charming mice are compatible with Windows 98, in case you have an old desktop lying around.

Inspired by the days of Windows XP

While not much is written about the fabled aqua mice of the 2000s, they were pretty commonplace, especially as promotional items. Heaps of brands like Intel to Hello Kitty had their own liquid-filled mouse.

The figures in these liquids usually had some sort of charming relevance to the company, like a small tractor for the John Deere mouse, or a floating branded logo.

Aqua mice are not massive collector’s items and can be picked up easily on eBay and other second-hand sites. However, they’ve built up a bit of a fanbase over the years. As of writing, there’s even a r/AquaMouse SubReddit with 1.3k members.

Rather than leaving retro fans to score through second-hand sites, Skeuoss decided to release their own mice, each inspired “by the days of Windows 7/Vita and those long hours chatting on MSN Messenger.”

The name ‘Frutiger Aero’ actually comes from a specific design style, that harkens back to the 2000s. This style is marked by its glossy textures, nature elements, and vibrant colors, all of which come across in the Skeuoss designs.

Both models of the ‘Frutiger Aero’ Aqua Mouse are available to pre-order from the Skeuoss website, and Amazon, for $29.99 each and despite battery a liquid regulations, can be shipped to the US.

However, there’s only limited stock available. If you want that added 00s nostalgia to your setup, Skeuoss recommends reserving your mouse as soon as possible.
