Nintendo have revealed the release date for the next major arrival of new content for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and it's good news for fans who have been waiting for Persona 5's Joker character.
The free version 3.0 update for the Nintendo Switch title is set to go live on April 17 and will bring a whole host of new content to the game, according to a press release from the developer.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate already has one of the deepest and well-rounded rosters in fighting game history, with over 70 playable characters to choose from, but it looks like that's about to get slightly bigger after this update goes live.
Nintendo have confirmed that the Joker will be available to purchase as a new playable character when the patch goes live, as part of Challenger Pack 1. This can be purchased individually for $4.99, or as part of the Fighters Pass for $24.99.
The version 3.0 update also confirms the long-awaited arrival of Stage Builder mode, which eagle-eyed fans may have spotted in the Nintendo Switch commercial below, as well as Video Editor and Smash World. So, let's take a look at what they will each entail:
Let's start with the one many people have been waiting for. Stage Builder was a mode in the Wii U's version of Smash, but wasn't included in the Nintendo Switch title when it was first released. However, it's now being added to the game.
Players will be able to hop into this game mode and create their very own stage, or fighting arena, to do battle in. This opens up a realm of opportunities for fans who would like to escape the set of maps already included in the title and do their own thing.
Smash World is a brand new service, which will be available in the Nintendo Switch online app.
"In Smash World, players can view recommended videos and even download custom stages shared by others online," the Nintendo press release states. "Giving players more ways than ever before to share their Super Smash Bros. Ultimate experience with friends."
A new video editor feature will also be added to the game, which will give players the chance to splice together their best moments in the fighting arena and share them with the online community.
There will also be a number of new Mii fighting costumes added to Smash. including outfits from the Sonic the Hedgehog series and from the world of Persona. These will be available on April 18.
