Multiple Smash Ultimate fighter rumors deconfirmed by prominent leaker

A Super Smash Bros Ultimate leaker with a good track record has deconfirmed multiple rumored characters as being the fifth DLC to round out the game’s Fighter Pass.

Vergeben, an insider who often posts leaks to the GameFaqs forums has ruled out some highly requested characters – much to the chagrin of the player base.

In a forum post titled “We all agree that Doomguy is the 5th DLC,” Vergeben dropped some new info which will undoubtedly create more speculation within the Smash community.

Are these Mii costumes legitimate or a mod?

“It’s not Doomguy. Or Geno,” the insider wrote, ruling out both the Super Mario RPG and Doom characters as making their way into the game any time soon.

As Dexerto previously reported, a video surfaced in November appearing to show Mii Outfits for Cacodemon from Doom and Mallow from Super Mario RPG. The internet was split on the legitimacy of the video with many suggesting the Miis appearance were due to modding.

Now, it would seem that we have an answer, if Vergeben’s comments are to be believed.

Doomguy and Geno weren’t the only fighters to be deconfirmed. The leaker’s post continued: “It’s not Ryu Hayabusa or Scorpion either.”

Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden had been rumored even before Terry Bogard’s announcement as DLC fighter 4 with some known leakers straight up saying that the Koei Tecmo hero was “definitely” coming.

In an October 24 post, Vergeben set the record straight on the Hayabusa rumor. “I can’t say that he won’t get in later since it seems like discussions for him leaked which lead to a big assumption among insiders briefly that he would be the fifth character in the Fighters Pass.”

He went on to add: “From what I know he’s not the last one in it. He’s apparently not Fighter #75.”

As for Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion, the insider seemed to crush the hopes of fighting game fans with a brutal fatality. Scorpion would have become the fourth fighting game icon to join the cast of Smash alongside Ryu, Ken, and Terry Bogard.

It’s unfortunate too, as being able to see the likes of Ryu go head-to-head with Scorpion would have been incredible for the community. Still, there’s always the chance Scorpion still gets in as it was confirmed that there would be more characters coming after the fifth fighter is released.

NintendoVergeben confirmed Terry Bogard as DLC fighter 4 before he was announced.

Vergeben’s accurate leaks go back to before the game’s release where he claimed Ridley and Simon Belmont would be added to the game as newcomers, and that everyone from prior installments would be returning in Smash Ultimate.

Additionally, just before E3 2019, he said there was a 99% chance Banjo & Kazooie would be added. Surely enough, they were announced during the E3 Nintendo Direct. And most recently, he confirmed Terry Bogard as DLC fighter 4

While the fifth fighter wasn’t announced with Terry’s gameplay reveal, it’s looking likely that we’ll find out the identity of the Video Game Awards on December 12. It was last year at the show that Nintendo revealed Persona’s Joker would be joining the cast.
