After the disappointing previous PUBG update for Xbox and PS4, Bluehole has finally released a fix for the issues alongside some notable gameplay changes.

Rendering issues

The April 8 PUBG update for console proved to do more harm than good. Rendering has always been an issue on console but the previous update made it so buildings would frequently fail to load before landing.

Of course, the result of this was players often getting stuck in buildings, meaning their game was over or ruining the game for someone else when an invisible player killed them. Frustration or laughter would ensue, depending on often it has happened in the past.

PUBGVikendi Castle has been the primary location of rendering issues…

Fortunately, update #7 for Xbox and #4 for PS4, is said to have resolved these issues. More specifically, proximate buildings should now load 30 to 40% quicker than before.

Erangel loot changes finally on console

Erangel is iconic, synonymous with PUBG and seemingly most players favorite map. However, a popular criticism of the map has been the loot balance.

For most players liking, the loot – more specifically guns – are too sparse. This results in players often landing and looting for more than a minute before finding a gun – in a busy area, this can be fatal.

PUBGErangel has now received loot changes on console…

DMRs such as the SKS receive the biggest increase in spawns, a 16% boost. SMGs increase by 14% and ARs 12%. SRs and handguns receive a small increase where the specific number is not stated.

Interestingly, as per the May 27 dev letter, sniper usage is less on console compared to PC. Consequently, sniper shot body damage was increased by 50% for the PTS. Feedback suggested this was a little too much and therefore this update has included a 30% increase in sniper damage to the body.

New MP5K gun

A new sub-machine gun has come to exclusive to Vikendi, replacing the Vector. Furthermore, a host of guns have received changes which are highlighted in the full patch notes below.

The MP5K looks to be an immediate contender for one of the more powerful guns. It is described as having a high rate of fire while having reasonable recoil to control.

PUBGThe MP5K is the latest gun to be added to PUBG…

Full patch notes

The full patch notes for PUBG update Xbox #7 and PS4 #4 are as follows. These patch notes are specific to Xbox although very similar to the PS4. The specific PS4 patch notes can be found in the inline link.

New Weapon: MP5K

The MP5K is a brand new sub-machine gun chambered for 9mm ammunition. MP5K is exclusive to Vikendi and replaces the Vector on that map.

While the firing mechanics of the MP5K are similar to those of the Vector, it boasts a higher per bullet damage, but with a lower overall firing rate and DPS. This SMG also has a higher magazine capacity than the Vector, starting at 30 rounds by default with 40 rounds in an extended magazine.

Key characteristics of the MP5K:

  • High rate of fire at 900 RPM with reasonably easy to control recoil
  • Accommodates all attachment slots to allow for a tactical stock, different types of magazines, muzzle attachments, grips, the laser sight and, of course, scopes
  • Base damage value of 33
  • Exclusive to Vikendi

    • Increased the range before damage fall-off occurs
    • Canted Sights and the Tactical Stock can now be attached to the M16A4
    • The Tactical Stock will decrease recoil recovery time, animation kick and weapon sway, while also improving ADS speed and hipfire accuracy
  • Vector
    • Vector has been rechambered to use 9mm ammo
    • Magazine capacity has been increased to 19 bullets by default and 33 with an extended mag (was 13/25)
    • Damage decreased from 34 to 31 due to above changes
    • Muzzle velocity changed to 380m/s (previously 300m/s)
  • UMP45
    • The UMP9 has been rechambered to use 45ACP ammo and is now called the UMP45.
    • Magazine capacity has been adjusted to 25 bullets by default and 35 with an extended mag (was 30/40)

  • Gameplay Balance
    • Decreased the overall aim punch (aim sway) applied when being shot by an enemy
    • First aid kits will no-longer heal instantly after use timer and will instead restore health over a 2 second period
    • Vehicles now block players from receiving grenade damage with a similar mechanism used for other objects. Although, depending on grenade position and trajectory, damage can still be dealt to players hiding behind vehicles.

Item Spawn Balance Modification

Erangel Loot Changes

The overall item spawn rates on Erangel have been increased. Additionally, we’ve increased the spawn rate of some major weapon classes.

  • Increased the spawn rate of ARs (12%), DMRs (16%) and SMGs (14%)
  • SRs and Handguns received a slight spawn rate increase

Due to item changes this patch, including merging some attachments together, there is naturally a gap left in spawns which needs to be filled with other items. Because of this, we have increased the spawn rate of other items evenly. This will also result in a small increase in spawns of high priority items such as ARs, meds etc.

This also means the overall loot for other maps has also increased slightly, although no changes have been made to individual item spawn ratios on other maps.

  • Crosshair UI Improvement for Canted Sight and Scopes
    • Added a new crosshair when using the Canted Sight to help players easily identify which scope they have equipped
  • When using your main scope, you will see the standard crosshair, with an X shaped crosshair when using the Canted Sight

Movement Rustling Sound

  • Weapons
    • Separate rustle sounds now play when equipping weapons in your hands vs holstering on your back
    • Identical rustling sound will be played regardless of weapon type
    • Sidearms, melee weapons and throwables do not make rustling sounds
  • Sound level balance
    • Even though the audible range of clothes is same as bags/weapons etc, it may sound like they’re heard at a different range due to the volume being lower.
    • The faster you move, the louder the noise, which can then be heard from further away
    • Rustling sounds of backpacks, weapons are all identical in both volume and audible distance
    • Audible distance and volume of the rustling sound changes dynamically based on the characters movement speed
    • The audible range and the volume of the rustling sound is lower than footsteps

UI/UX

  • In-game lobby background and BGM has been changed
  • System menu UI which can be accessed by pressing the Start button has been redesigned
  • Emotes customization UI has been redesigned
    • Starting at 12 o’clock position, 4 of the emotes positioned counter-clockwise you previously equipped will be unequipped.
    • You can customize your emotes in the EMOTES tab within the CUSTOMIZATION menu.
    • The maximum number of emote you can use in-game has been changed to 8 from 12

Performance

  • Optimized level streaming and improved the loading speed of proximate buildings by 30~40%.
    • Material data structure has been optimized.
    • Streaming priority has been optimized based on the prediction of the player’s movement direction.
    • Loading speed of internal objects in buildings has been optimized.

See below for a full break down of absolutely everything included.

PUBG 9.1 Patch Notes

The following PUBG Season 9 patch notes and information has been provided by the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds blog.

New Map: Paramo

Cradled hidden among the clouds in the highlands of South America lies Paramo, an ancient land with ancient secrets. Paramo’s dangers are plentiful, but none so dangerous as the active volcano nearby whose molten lava streams flow across the land. Survivors dropping onto the Paramo Battlegrounds will only be able to reach the highlands via helicopter, which also have the task of distributing Care Packages around the field.

Paramo is a 3×3 map with a dynamic world new to PUBG. This dynamic world system alters locations between matches, making every trip to Paramo a unique experience.

Read on for the full details!

Seasonal Match

Due to our new Dynamic Map Locations system, Paramo will be provided as a Seasonal Match separate from current matchmaking pool.

  • Paramo is provided as a Seasonal Match exclusive for Season 9 only.
  • Seasonal Match will have bots disabled.
  • Seasonal Match will not count for your Career > Stats.
  • Seasonal Match will have the Battlestat feature disabled.
  • Seasonal Match will allow you to complete missions.

Paramo Map Rules

  • 3×3 km playable area with dynamic map locations.
  • 64 Players
  • TPP & FPP Squads Only
  • No Red Zones
  • The Blue Zone shrinks slowly, but deals more damage compared to other maps, even in the early phases of the match.
  • Motorcycles are the only vehicle available on Paramo and can usually be found near small villages.

Paramo: New Features

Dynamic Map Locations

  • Major landmarks and parts of terrain are relocated in every new session.
  • Players must adapt and use suitable strategies and tactics according to the changes.
  • Several streams of lava flow from active volcanoes throughout Paramo, presenting a unique environment hazard as you traverse across the map.
    • Stepping foot in lava can lead to a quick death, dealing 10 damage per second to players, ticking every half second.
    • Riding a Motorcycle into lava will destroy your tires and quickly begin to destroy the vehicle, whilst also dealing damage to the player.
  • Unlike other maps, players can wander outside the bounds of the playable area and a warning will display on screen. Failure to quickly return to the playable area will result in you being killed.
  • New item boxes can now spawn in certain houses.
  • Destroy the boxes to find multiple pieces of loot, such as ammo, throwables, and healing items.
  • Players will drop into the Battleground of Paramo from helicopters.
  • During the match, these helicopters carry precious cargo across the map, with the plan of dropping it just outside the play area. Pay close attention and if you shoot enough rounds into a helicopter, you’ll force it to release the cargo early.
  • Paramo has a handful of Care Packages exclusive, highland themed items not found on other maps, including new full-body camo suits, ghillie suit and backpack.
  • With a critical response kit in your inventory, you will be able to revive a downed squad member in just one second.
  • In Paramo, you might find a ‘Secret Room Key’ while looting.. it’s gotta unlock something, right?

Ranked Mode

Ranked Mode just got a little more solo friendly with the introduction of Ranked Solo queue. You’ll now be able to take on the Ranked Battlegrounds against other solo players as you climb the competitive ranks.

Season 9 Begins

A new ranked season has begun. Ranked rewards earned from Season 8 will be granted to your account upon login.

  • Player ranks have been reset
    • Players will be given their initial rank after 5 placement matches.
    • RP has been soft-reset, so your initial Season 9 placement will be influenced by your Season 8 rank.
  • Leaderboards have been reset
    • Final player ranks and the regional Top 500 leaderboards will be finalized once live server maintenance is complete, to ensure all matches are accounted for.
    • View your Season 8 stats and the Top 500 leaderboards of each region under Career > Stats

Ranked Game Mode Updates

  • These matches will have the same competitive qualities as Ranked Squad matches.

  • Care Packages
    • MG3 has been added Care Packages on all Ranked maps

Regional Matchmaking Changes

This update to regional queues adds a Solo option to Ranked. In addition, we will now begin adjusting the available queues on a per region basis in an effort to deliver the best experience possible to each region.

When players go to select a game mode in either normal or ranked sections, they will see that the options that are available will be different. At a minimum, the changes will include the addition of a solo ranked option, but depending on region they may see different combinations of options available in terms of team size, perspective, and ranked/normal matches.
