Félix ‘xQc’ Lengyel discovered a difference in the Spooky version of Eichenwalde that has the potential to be game-changing.

The new Halloween Terror event brought with it three new “Spooky” map variants, bringing the Halloween atmosphere to all modes of play. Spooky Château Guillard now appears in the likes of Deathmatch, while Quick Play and Competitive players now experience Spooky Eichenwalde and Spooky Hollywood.

In theory, the update is simply a cosmetic change, designed to bring a Halloween aesthetic but not adjusting gameplay. In at least one instance, however, the reskin has resulted in a functional change that could be game-changing.

On the last point of Eichenwalde, next to the finish location for the payload, there is a corner beneath the raised platform. In the normal version of the map, it is possible for all characters to jump from this corner to the platform, but in the Spooky edition it is not.

It might seem like an insignificant detail, but for characters without vertical movement abilities it means that there is only one way out of the corner. Particularly for the defense, therefore, retreating into that corner can now be a death sentence if trapped by the pushing team.

With how close to the end of the map this spot is, a key player – such as a Reinhardt – dying because they were trapped in the corner could be the difference between winning and losing, so it’s definitely worth keeping this change in mind if you find yourself playing on Spooky Eichenwalde.
