After that though, it was all Team UK with a dominant first point hold on King’s Row to take the map 1-0.

Volskaya was more of a battle, with extra rounds required to find a winner, but eventually, Team UK would come out on top 4-3.

It all came down, appropriately, to Route 66. Team UK captured all three points to throw the gauntlet down for the USA, who were unable to answer, leading to a 3-2 win for Team UK.

Esports consultant Rod ‘Slasher’ Breslau summed up the disappoint from Team USA in one short tweet to remind everyone of the country’s lack of hardware.

As much as Team USA fans must be disappointed, Team UK supporters must feel like this year is destiny.

With teams like South Korea, China and Canada still in the running though, there’s a long road ahead for the UK if they want a true Cinderella story.
