Unusual Overwatch bug teleports Baby D.Va across the map

A bizarre Overwatch bug seems to be teleporting D.Va from her Mech to an entirely different spot on the map, and it could be an example of the game’s mechanics getting confused.

D.Va is unique among Overwatch heroes because she has two different forms: her Mecha, which players start out in, and so-called “Baby” or Pilot D.Va, who pops out when the robot is destroyed.

Usually, her pilot form appears in the same general area where her Mech was destroyed, but a clip from Reddit user NabitDMO shows something much different happening instead.

D.va got hit with a bit of a nerf.

In the clip, D.Va gets pinned by an enemy Reinhardt immediately following his Earthshatter and charged away from her team and the payload.

She takes enough damage to be knocked out of her Mech, but rather than landing where it was destroyed, Baby D.Va is tossed across the map instead.

This is something that definitely doesn’t seem like it should happen normally, but it might not be as “random” of a glitch as it seems at first.

If you look closely, you’ll see our hero actually uses her boosters just before being pinned. After it’s destroyed during the charge, it seems like Baby D.Va ends up where her Mech would have gone if it could have completed its boost.

This could certainly be considered a bug then, since Reinhardt’s charge should cancel out D.Va’s boosters entirely, except that’s obviously not what happened.

Exactly what caused Overwatch to get so confused on this is unknown, but it seems pretty likely that you’d have to get the timing down precisely in order to replicate this glitch.

It’s a wild-looking bug, but you probably shouldn’t expect to see it appear in your games.

The good news is that the glitch did teleport the player to relative safety, but with nothing more than D.Va’s pistol to help them survive, they still didn’t last very long.

While Hana Song might not be getting a new ability for herself, the combo of her ult and Symmetra’s teleporter is still a formidable option.
