Nepal is one of several maps for which the spawn rooms for each team are drop ships, which are well-known for including basketballs in them. Hours have been spent by players trying to figure out how to get the most epic dunks in these rooms.

It turns out, however, that the basketballs might have more use than just showing off with trick-shots.

While playing on the Village point of Nepal, a basketball that had been pushed from the spawn all the way to the central area may well have saved an entire team.

Overwatch player u/SeykaMoonlight captured the bizarre moment as the two teams were skirmishing around one of the main choke points. Their team’s Zarya could be heard firing off their Graviton Surge, but nothing seemed to immediately happen.

Then, a moment later, the black hole of the graviton could be seen bouncing around, away from the enemy team. Instead of landing in its intended location, it had stuck to a basketball, which proceeded to harmlessly ricochet around the map, carrying the ultimate with it.

This isn’t the first instance of players showing that certain abilities could be connected to the basketballs. Other examples include sticking a pulse bomb to them, or using them to fly across the map as Widowmaker. Many of these have been patched after Blizzard became aware of them, however.
