An Overwatch player showed off a powerful tactic on the second point of Volskaya Industries.

Bastion isn’t typically a very popular pick on the offensive side of any map, and when he is seen on the attack it’s usually as part of a “pirate ship” composition in an Escort or Hybrid game mode, in which he can set up as the central turret and be carried forward by the advancing payload.

When it comes to Assault maps, the need for Bastion to set up in a stationary position in order to maximize his output usually makes him a suboptimal choice for the offence, but on Volskaya u/whoever demonstrated a clever trick to allow him to be very effective.

By using Bastion’s ultimate not for damage, but instead as a “rocket-jumping” tool – a technique which uses the slight knock-back from explosives to provide a slight jump boost – the player is able to reach a vantage point over the second point, giving him a perfect view while remaining relatively concealed.

While the spot doesn’t allow Bastion himself to capture the point, assuming he has team-mates capturing the defenders will be forced to try and touch the point in order to contest, leaving them entirely open to Bastion’s line-of-sight.

This isn’t the only location in which Bastion can use his ultimate to reach a powerful position, with teams in Contenders EU previously demonstrating a similar tactic on Ilios.

Despite tricks like these, Bastion’s typical lack of mobility has left him fairly low down the tier list for quite a while, and Blizzard are reportedly considering addressing that with a rework in 2019.
